The Offshore Party Platform

Do any of you get the sense we are living through the Fall of the American Empire and that if We the People do not rise up, peaceably, and do something about it the country will never recover? Our current political parties are rotten to their core. Our government may not be 18th century Brittain but it is getting close as more and more our leaders are imposing their will on us rather than the other way around. I do not know about you but I am getting sick of it. We need a grass roots effort to fix it as we sure as hell cannot count on our current cadre of money grubbing corrupt politicians to do it.

So let's form our own political party - call it the Offshore Party - and party platform. I will start with a few basic principles as to the federal government that I think should be included and then everyone else can chime in:

1. We want the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, as amended, to serve as the governing documents of our republic i.e. the Supreme Law of the Land. These are not living, breathing documents. (Neither of them is 1100pages long either, but they sure as hell got the job done). Rather, they are clear and unambiguous. If we want to change the Constitution, there is a built-in mechanism for it. Otherwise, no more pretending it says and/or provides for rights it says nothing about. (Hear that judges, special interest groups and activists?)

2. The Federal government must have a VERY LIMITED role in our lives per the Declaration and Constitution. Provide a national defense and regulate our national economy per the Constitution.

3. The Federal Government must balance the budget - ALWAYS.

4. The Federal Income Tax Rate must NEVER exceed 15%.

5. To be President one must have served in the military.

6. Term Limits for Congressmen (10 years) and Senators (12 years).

7. No more foreign wars without a formal declaration of war from Congress. If Congress rescinds the declaration then we are done.

8. We adhere to a capitalist economic system, PERIOD, FULL STOP, END OF CONVERSATION.

Ok, whose next?

9.

I gotta think no lawyers should be allowed to hold public office. Maybe limit that to congress and up.

A campaign promise is a verbal contract subject to the exact same laws as every other documented verbal contract in the courts of the United States.

If found to have breached that contract, you are out of office.

I'm in. Sounds good to me.

*All elected officials must be held completely accountable for their actions and decisions.
-They will be graded annually and must receive a passing score in order to retain their office. They will be judged on follow-through of their campaign promises.
-They will be judged on merits of their decisions as compared to the feelings of their constituents through popular polls. (If you do nothing (or even opposite) that your constituents demand of you, you're out!)
*The government provides for the people; the people do not provide for government.
*The government provides infrastructure and protection. Nothing more, nothing less.
*Individuals who give not, get not.

If you have not paid any Federal income taxes in the last 2 years, you may not vote in any election.

And pay for performance as decided by the constituents

Dang, I thought we were going to talk about buying that old oil rig again so we could throw some crazy ass keggers! :sifone:

A castle doctorine amendment, and the inability to seek damages occured during the course of a crime.. if your a criminal...you cannot sue me for cutting your hand while breaking my window. If you threaten me, steal from me and I catch you in the act....

I'm just sayin'!

Oh yah, and lets get back to a real federalist system where states are responsible for "police powers" and the federal government retains only the autority sepecifically granted to it in the Constitution... Pull back the Warren courts overreaching under the Commerce Clause and lets reinstate the 10th ammendment. How about that?

POTUS Will only get one 6 year term. That way they are not running for reelection the last 2 years of the first term. also if some one is holding a office and want to run for POTUS they have to resign from their current office to do so. If they loose they can re-run for the office they held before.

Outlaw lobbyist. The politicians should know how to vote based on their campaign platforms. There should be a massive checklist they complete prior to election ensuring they stay on task.

That is not the real problem. The real problem is that the congressional staff who actually write the legislation, are usually young attorneys who take 10,000 words to say something that should only require 100.

The competency test could consist of one question... Do you want to hold political office?

If they answer yes, they are clearly unfit to hold office!

(I'm not going to touch the "lawyer" comments in Mike's thread!) :sifone:

I will

I agree NO LAWYERS in politics

Every politician should have to provide a resume that proves they have run a business Successfully

Running for office should only be allowed for 6 months, then we vote!!

This way they will have less time to sling mud and have to hurry and get out the issues

If you run for higher office you MUST step down from prior post so the people are not paying for them to get a new job
Look at McCain,Hillary, and Obama all ran (for two years) still paid to be a senator the entire time while they were stumping to get a new job

TERM LIMITS !!!!!! no more of the life time politician working the system
