The Great Unification

How do the 850's compare hour wise?

CRC is on their third season. WHM ran 2 years and bought new ones for this season as a precaution. They sold the first set and the new owner is pleasure boating with them.

No reason you couldn't run about 25-30 races on them before peeking inside.

and just for fun, a new Sterling 750 is $53k, a new Merc 850 is $62k with a crash box.

750 will last 2-4 races, 850 will last 2-4 seasons.

WHM has 1200 's now !!!

i only changed the oil and filter spark plugs (once) impellers each year ? not much else no break downs ( motor related) a great spec racing engine, the vortex was the same way, makes for some great racing, thats why we don,t want to change the svl class

Would you say they run pretty even on the race course.

I saw last year WHM and CRC came in the Harbor first on Wed. On a longer course the 750's might have had the advantage.

Whats your take ? Race them together?

Yes, the 850's will be in front in most races. Jimmy ran well in Biloxi and got out front on the 3 mile straights. That is the only time I can remember one out in front the last couple years.

They are close enough to race together, you can mess with the weights some or the props some more if you wanted to really and try and even it out exactly, but the engines are fine.

Mercury will rebuild and reseal an engine. You can still buy new ones (and with the current economy, I doubt they are planning a replacement anytime soon).

On the rebuild/reseal. What if it needs a bore job? Is it then an illegal engine in SVL etc?

And, is anyone other than Merc certified to rebore/reseal?
