The Day SVL Died

Paul #1 I don,t think we need a " have at it boys " thread,,
#2 you would NEVER find a neutral SVL moderator lol
we are all friends , and are just going thru some growing pains ,,bottom line I think we today would all still help eachother get to the water on race day ,,

Thank you Rat!

Wil

Really good question Wil. I'll do my best to answer it, probably won't please anyone.....

Ex racers and current racers, along with those who have never raced but have put their time in with race promotion and organization, pretty much police themselves very well. When someone says something completely out of line, it is extremely rare that the item is not edited by the person who typed it, after they get some less than positive feedback.

All of you have more freedom than anyone else on the site. What you say to each other we try to take the approach you'd say the same thing in a bar over a drink face to face, or in my living room face to face if you were all over to discuss the past, present, and future of Offshore Racing.

Sometimes I cringe with what I read, and I know from my PM's others do too. But, it is tough for some moderators to distance themselves from direct involvement. And the couple of us who send out the PM's to request personal editing of someone's posts, also have a tough time stepping in to make direct changes.

We've only ever banned one racer. And that was after we had numerous requests from other racers, I had a couple of hour long, face to face discussions about the difference between what is put on the internet for all to see, and what you may say to someone's face when you see them. Unfortunately, they didn't get it.

I get just as much flak for over-editing as I get for under-editing. When it comes to racers and ex-racers, I try to not edit at all. If that's not good enough, you guys pick some racers or ex-racers who you would like to be a moderator/policeman, start a thread with a vote that only those who fit the category can vote in, (we can make sure of that in the vote count), and we'll start a discussion about an addition to the moderation group.

As for the offshore non-racers, all of you seem to police that well. If they want to participate in a discussion with you, tell them they need to be respectful or they will be un-welcome.

If you also wish, we can look into modifying our categories to add something for a past competitor or similar along with the competitior membership. Email me if you wish, or I can move this post into a new thread for discussion if you wish.

Direct comment to the non-racer members; Police yourselves, as I do myself, if you wish to discuss racing events and categories with racers.

ie; Edit your own comments if they meet Wil's criteria above.

Would someone please let IMCO OFFSHORE and DUNBAR 104 know that there screenames(avatars) have been stolen. This is obviously not the George and Mark that i know. The George that I know would never stoop to the levels that this person has.In my mind George has been the godfather of the SVLs,He would do anything to help you get to a race and tell you everything he knew to get you competitive.Whoever this woman is thats pretending to be him is making me lose all respect for him.And trust me here, the Mark I know would not go on here and whine the way this woman has.If anybody can make a boat go fast its him.He has been kicking everybodys azz for the past two years and if he got beat he would just go make his boat faster. That fountain has nothing on him, just give him time! Trust me again,This is not the Mark and George I know

"While Randy is in the Bahamas on vacation"?.Listen here missy! you better give George back his screename.I dont think he would appreciate you throwing Randy under the bus like that.Let me explain something to ya honey! sometimes us racers have to sacrifice something to keep our wives and or girlfriends happy.Which might include taking them somewhere at the end of the season. And dont think for a minute that this wasn't paid for before the season started.(Dont tell me you hav'nt been there George or whoever)

heater your too much ,,but right ,,thanks for nod,,and your right , i,m not in the keys ,,because i,m taking my wife on a long deserved 10 day cruise,,, we reserve the right to claim " temp insanity "
but , the people throwing down on my boat ,,have made more alternations to their hulls than i ever had ,,the differance ,,,mine worked !! i,ll leave it at that ,,and wish all a safe week,,,this week should prove out to be a barn burner,,
I believe two boats will get more attention this week ,than all the rest combined,,!!

I have to agree with ya on that one George (if this is george)drop the homolagation rule and do whatever you want to your hull or deck.Isnt that how we get better faster boats.Put the buzzi brush back on,as long as it is available to everyone they can go buy one too.put the bussel on too as long as anyone can buy one.
