Okay, let me try. Steve, most of us here are no friends of Obama. And we are all fairly successful and intelligent people. The stuff that you talk about here, most of us have heard in passing and are aware of. But this is red meat kinda stuff, the kind that the parties use to gin up the unwashed masses against the other guy. Most of us here are NOT the unwashed masses and think for ourselves. Even if half that crap about Obama is true, we cannot do anything about it, and screaming about it makes us look desperate. Instead it is better to have reasonable discussions and try and find common ground, in a friendly way. This IS NOT a political website like the Daily Kossack or Free Republic, the level of discussion is different and more polite, period.

The Problem for whatever reason this WAS not addressed during the Champaign, The logical take on it is McCain was working for the other side (Soros) and in a few Conservative forums this is talked about whenever his name comes up for some backstabbing he was doing at the time. Well as Ayres and the lot of his fellow Chicago sewer swimmers was not mentioned and His Religion was also Taboo.

His background along with the Father who was flown in with 70 some odd others by some Hollywood Racists for exactly that to fight Colonel rule in Africa and here so to speak.

But the Problem when these marginally intelligent minorities are given precedence over a hard working White kid and their College seat!!!! There are Ramifications, Serious ones!! We trade say a Jonas Salk for a Michelle Obama who can do nothing really except agitate and to continue here Clarance Johnson for say Obama senior a abusive father who died a drunk I am not going in to the Junior Senator here Occupying the Whitehouse.

That's some pretty paranoid stuff Steve. Unfortunately, none of it has anything to do with why Obama beat McCain by 10 million vote. And many of those votes coming from registered Republicans.

Here are some of the reasons...

Obama got voters to the polls.
80 million Americans eligible to vote didn't. But that's the fewest number ever. Obama got the new voters out.

Obama sold the intangible.
I saw interviews where people were quizzed on likes and dislikes. Many lined right up with McCain. But they said they were voting for Obama. Why? They liked him. They related to him. They liked the message, even so far as to ignore his actual positions and beliefs.

He stuck to his plan.
McCain was all over the map. The GOP primary was a mess. All that money and effort ripping at each other publicly. Obama allowed himself to be underestimated all the way to the White House. We're doomed to repeat the last campaign if we don't start developing some talent right now. Obama started being groomed for the job when he took the stage at the '04 convention. Who's our guy?

A very tiny percentage of people paid any attention to who his father was, the individuals he'd crossed paths witthat did things prior to the birth of most of the people that voted for him and so on. You can continue to bang yourhead against the wall, but that won't make people care. Voters have changed. You just got to see what they will and won't care about. And until the GOP starts paying attention, they'll continue to lose races.

That is true but Obama was never challenged on his Religion and friends starting the kindly Mr Wright then the terrorist Ayres the ghost writer, his records, LSATs will be a start and the Maverick/Quisling McCain could have flattened him during a Debate if some questions were raised like the plumber did.

The reason Obama won is over 10 Million Republicans sat out the election and or cast third party
,Started with the 06 midterms he Inflamed the Conservatives as no one in history has, we crashed the whitehouse switchboard and Bush added fuel to the fire with "see you at the signing".

This economy is a direct result of the Immigration and mismanaged War (troops for human IED detectors) effort by Bush, Obama should be shining his shoes and washing his car in gratitude We Conservatives are 40% of the voting block under normal times..

Very astute Chris. The 2008 election is one of those that should have been expected, but for Clinton, not Obama. I'm more interested in my own team, and why we didn't win, rather than why the other guy did. Obama was in the right place at the right time, Hillary started out soft and got taken off guard. His plan was better, and earlier, and better managed. I think Hillary would have garnered a larger voting share in the end, and today.

My candidate was the McCain from 2000, not the McCain from 2008. He still had some of the old stuff though.

Greta point, "Who's our guy?" Perhaps the only important question there is. You can pound on Obama for three more years, or come up with actual proposals and people that are better. The names people throw out now are ones that various media outlets throw around.

We have voters now with the same credibility problems that used to be relegated to candidates. We have more talking heads than we can stand, but few leaders. Flabbergasted fiscal conservatives like myself have been waiting for financial collapse for many years, yet many that claim to be conservatives blame it on the 2007/2008 Congress. Both political parties are in complete disarray, with lefties going bonkers and righties splitting off into self-delusional factions. We have the usual suspects claiming no ownership for any problems whatsoever.

We need real leaders. Not real Republican or Democrat leaders, REAL leaders. The current posers of both parties are being egged on by neophytes. These people's necks snap flipping from one talking point to another. At times, they must have to visit a dozen web sites just to form an opinion.
