Should I be looking at playboy?

Nothing wrong with the 496 in any way. But the 496 on a standard Bravo is going to be a very expensive boat to own if the speed bug bites hard.

This would be a great first boat, and some breathing on the 496's could be fun. But he needs to relize that this is going to be a short-term stepping stone boat for him and he should be very wary of trying to get 95MPH out of it. Many people begin taking those steps before realizing the total cost involved and they're too far by the time they realize it would have been smarter to buy what they wanted rather than trying to piece at a time take this boat there.

It's pretty rare that a guy steps up like this and isn't ready to start feeing the 5mph bug a month into their season. The advantage to the 525/XR package is that with a few bolt-ons you have Merc 700 power and the same reliability. But you're right- it isn't cheap. But it is cheaper to do up front than piecemeal.

Excuse me, but whats inexpensive about a HP525 engine package?!!
I know I definitly have a 496 bias, but there's nothin wrong with a properly ,reasonably priced upgrade to a pair of 496's. There are quite a few boats out there with our packages and they don't stare at the back of any HP525 equipped boats I heard off.

WMF- Now they have pissed me off!
You get that Playboy and we'll make sure you got some 496's that will hold their own against any Merc HP525EFI. We love to be the underdog!

Sorry, But Bill has been there and done that now with 2 boats and gotten very lucky, I just thought he would have wanted a turn key stock 525 boat this time, just say'n.
Like I said I would love it with the 496/bravo but I am not in the least bit interested in balls to the wall speed.

I havnt been in this as long as u guys but my take on this whole speed thing is to just buy the boat that has already got in it what you want vs add ons and new engins etc

Mark my words now when I say I wont repower or bolt on upgrades. If thats what I want im ging to sell and buy the set up I want. (makes sence to me for at least today :willy_nilly:)

Actually I have been very lucky with the past 8 boats I have had, I have had 1 Scarab, 5 Donzi's, 1 Apache and 1 Cigarette in the past 10 years, I do not fall in love with boats, I buy them, make them better and sell them and sometimes make a profit:sifone:

That's good if you're going to either get into the boat really right or you're going to keep the boat a few years to lessen the sting accompanying its loss in value. But if you pay market for the boat at the peak of the season then try to sell it on the down end a few months later, that hurts.

If the Playboy had 525's and XR's it would be a boat you could leave alone or take pretty far. And it would be a much easier boat to resell. The 496 boat is perfect for a guy that knows where he wants to be performance wise and has been around long enough to know he has no desire for much more than what the boat offers as-is. But there's not many of those guys around.

I understand, I was basicly saying you got lucky in the last year with the sale of 2 boats when everyone else is.......well you know.
And I thought you wanted a Gun but I like you know a deal when I see it.
That being said I would be happy just the way it is and I hope you could be also.:)

It is not luck, I buy things at the right price, so when I get ready to sell them I can move it, because I dont owe what everyone might think I owe on it. I never buy something I cant get rid of fast, in this economy you never know what will happen. Most sellers are all upside down right now, they bought at market value and the market tanked, now they are stuck or have to pay out to get rid of it. I will keep it for a year if I buy it!!, run it, enjoy it, and sell it!! I Want a Gun, but with the price's the way they are on the one's I have found I wont be able to get rid of it in a short time frame, I dont keep my boats more than 2 years. I dont grow attached to boat's, car's, or houses!! everything is for sale!! I buy and sell boat's, and jetski's all year, so I never get attached.

496&525 are great FWC motors:cheers2: I'd flip 496's put 525's just for the few extra MPH if cost isn't huge??

Curious, do you handle your women like that, cause that could get expensive and dangerous!
Hope not, we don't want to have a sherriff find your bruised and battered body in a ditch with 100 bullet holes and 400lbs of chain and stand there and say"Thats the worst case of suicide I ever seen"!

Keep on turnin those boats, keeps the industry goin!

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Thats awesome, love to hear guys brag about their wives and families, shows real character on a site like this!
I've only been married for 40 years now so I guess I still got a little to learn about marriage for an old fart like me.

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

It is a great boat for any boater. It has alot to offer to the first time boater and the experenced boater as well. A 18 Classic Donzi is a great first boat!! not a 35ft Playboy with twin steps that runs almost 80!!

Here are some better pic of the Playboy!!
