Personal Boating Disasters

Don't laugh. I found a photo from a few decades ago. One of the families first boats. We used a neighbors dock to put on davits until ours were installed. Needless to say, the davits couldn't hold our hulkin' beast.

I'm curious to see any of your photo from mishaps, accidents or other incidences that were caught on film.

I have another photo somewhere of the 18' Glastron I sank. In hindsight, it was the best thing that could have happened. Had a rubber boot around the drive that had rotted out. Boat didn't run. We were going to tow to ramp next morning so father asked me to put it in water the night before. Wouldn't youknow it, found her sitting on bottom the next morning.
He was trading it in for 5k. insurance paid him 8k. henever thanked me for the profit. Punk.

Seriously a bad day.

On the way to KW in 2007. I-75 near Venice. Still have night mares about ths one.

Hit a roller one day and wound up on the starboard gunnel on the way down. Hit just right at the bulkhead in front of the helm and caused this little mishap. Luckily, no one was with me. Last pic is after the repair. Couldn't even tell.
Before everyone jumps on the beer cans, the boat stayed at a friends lakehouse overnight and became the designated trash can.

Thanks guys

Yeaah... it was a sad day. But my Son and I walked away from it. He actually fell on my shoulder, and I just got the shoulder fixed a few months ago..

The old boat was totaled so I got a brand new Avanti now. Even the graphics are very similar.
Beware of Carlise tires. New rear tire on the trailer blow and off we went.
But.. I have to look things with a good attitude. Cost me a bunch but the new Avanti got 525's ITS and S. Masters. The one that flipped had 496's.
Insurance screwed me bit... but.. .. it's the past. Shoulder is better and fun is on the horizon. Ft Myers is next. :26:

Paradox, Is that the boat you still have or is a different Boat? There is a boat here in Nashville that looks to be the same paint and has some road damage on it but the new owner has it mostly repaired and is actually using the boat.

THe current boat is a new hull and new rigging.

THe boat that flipped the insurance guys took and it was on Craigs list and on E-bay for a while to be sold as a "salvage" boat or something. It could have been fixed but I wasn't going to deal with it. It dissapeared sometimes in Early 2008. Don't know where the old hull is.
Could be in your neck of the woods.

Was it a 425 hp 496 boat? 33'?

Shortly after getting my 38 Formula, we were leaving the docks at a restaurant when the Admiral remembered she had left her sweatshirt behind. I go to pull into a double slip without noticing the sideways flow of the current. Seconds later, we smash into the jetski that's occupying the other (downstream) side. No damage, but horrible noises and lots of embarrasment. The jetski's owner comes flying down the dock, justifyably upset. I apologize profusely, offer to repair anything that needs it, give him my card, etc. He cools down pretty quickly, and then says "It's OK, there's no damage, I can see it was an accident. It's just that this is the SECOND time it's happened to me today."

I bought his whole table a round of drinks.

One time...................on Clays boat...........one of the Claymates refused to take her top off! :ack2:
