Opinion wanted

Polls are great, but with all due respect to our greater membership, I don't care about the opinion of someone that's not coming anyway. We need to separate the "HELL YEAH!'s" from the "sounds good's" and find out what works for them.

Vegas is tough to beat as far as accessability and expense. And when I floated the possibility of other venues, nobody bit. Time of year is a big one.

Well, we wouldn't need a 12 month poll if we eliminate anything during the Poker Run/Race Season. That takes out from the third week of March, through the end of September?

This is a tough one to pin down a date on.
Obvious summer months are no good as Paul pointed out.
Late November until after the 1st of January everyone has family stuff.
Feb. there is the Miami boat show.

Looks like mid Jan.would be the best for a Vegas trip - if that is what we're deciding on.
Just my opinion.

Mid-January is the best weeks to get deals in Vegas as far as our time frame.

Cool places like Luxor and MGM have rates as low as $49 that time of year.

I like this idea. We need people that want to make it happen to step up and take this off the paper and make it real. Who wants to work on it?
I will help too.
I like Vegas like the second or third week of Jan.

An awesome side trip idea would be rent a couple sweet vehicles and do a run the 2 hours or so between the mountains, over the Hoover Dam, and down to Havasu. Maybe some Havasu/So cal guys would organize an outing for anybody who wanted. I have done this and it's a cool drive. You get the desert, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and Havasu. For east coast people, maybe some haven't seen all that stuff. I don't know.
Us Great Lakes people could do the same for them when they get up to the lakes in the summer. I would love a national ride swap program.

So, the question at the moment is;

Which week after the first of the year, and before the Miami show, works the best for an SO trip to Vegas?

Is that where we are at?

It looks like that appears to be the only gap, if we don't link with an existing venue....

OK guys.
Looks like we have us a little committee of three that can take the lead on this one.
You guys know I'll be in PHX after next week, so I've also been over on the PB board trying to get familiar with the guys out west. I know Reddog is right there in Vegas, we might be able to hit him up for some suggestions.
Next steps are setting actual dates.
Seems we're all in agreement that 2-3rd week of January is going to work out best.
My vote is weekend of the Sat. 23rd- give us all a few weekends to recover from the holidays at home. The dates for Miami haven't been secured yet, but it will likely leave 2 weekends back at home before Miami.
How many days do we want to do? Fri, Sat, travel home Sun.?? or longer than that?

The cheapest days to fly are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays....

Does that make a difference?

This could lead to great relationship between the east-coast and west-coast boating sites.
Make it a little easier when someone is traveling to hook-up with a fellow boater on the other side of the states.
Sure beats the bashing between other sites.
I mean, we're not strictly East coast/Midwest, but that is where our predominant membership is from.

Sure beats dragging my boat to Havasu from here, bro. ;)

You tell me??
I'll be close enough to make about a 4 hr. drive.
But I think when it comes to flights to Vegas, none are really that outrageous - but I'm going on assumption here, as I said, I've never been there.

How does the 23rd of Jan work for the vendors, industry...etc.. that were mentioned as possible elements?

Seems Stecz has been a main contact with a lot of vendors - maybe he can do some checking?
Might be a problem with some being as they will be ramping up for Miami.

Once we have a date.... we will have to find a way to estimate the potential size of the group to negotiate things.

I love that Reddog is out there. He is a really cordial type of guy.

Any thoughts on the side trip to Havasu?

Matters to me... I don't fit in coach. :)

9 months of starvation, no problem....

If we plan main get-together Sat night, people could plan on saving $ if wanted and fly back Tuesday. For those who didn't care, they could do whatever they wanted.
