Animal back story. A couple weeks before cold snap we had rescued a big dog from a local shelter. He was said to have only ever lived outside which was OK with me. In addition the owner had died a year ago and wife was unable to communicate with him and he roamed the neighborhood free. Eventually, a neighbor complained to the woman threatening fees. She called the animal control and they had to trap to catch him. After a week in a cage I found and went to visit him. I felt a connection and brought him home the next day. He would not move on a leash. Just plant his but like a mule. I bought a dog house he would not get in. I prepared a shelter best i could that he would use. The first real cold night the power failed I went to check on him in his shanty and sat an hour with him. In that time the power cycled back on. He was alerted to a gulping sound the pond quoi pond was making. The skimmer door froze closed and the pump was running dry. I went to remedy that issue and chief was investigating snow and ice for the first time. At 4 am -6 degrees he falls in the pond. Only his back half was in as I plucked him out. As he attempted to scurry away I tackled him so we wouldn't run off. I then carried his 92 lbs inside to dry immediately. He remained inside and only went out on a leash the rest of last week.

He did exceptionally well with his crash course of leash and house training. We would circle house regularly with my other dogs lead. Poor Chief the new dog did not poop for 3 days. Fortunately I awoke form the couch where I had been sleeping all week to his panting. I let him out and he drug my on the leash far from the house to poop. Thank good he came thru. There would have been a lot of yake to clean up too.

After a few more days he settled in.

I also have three hens I was caring for.

Everyone made it thru after many prayers and much good fortune.

Half thawed yesterday. By end of day today only the evidence of broken trees will remain. Many are still without water. Electricity for most part is back to normal.

In the worst of it I would sit in the dark cold wondering what I would do if forced to evacuate house. What to do with animals? Where to go? Would diesel truck even start?

I can not express how grateful I am we were able to overcome.

I broke a bench vise Saturday. By hand. A 4.5 inch Irwin.
Using a breaker bar against a barrel nut on a rifle held by a reaction rod. Broke the vise and it warped. Bought a better vise and froze the barrel and receiver for a few hours at 0 degrees. Took it out and put a torch on one side for a second and the breaker bar and... POP! Barrel nut was probably torqued to 100+

I realize it wasn't a heavy duty vise, but I have never broken a vise before. Damn Chinesium.

Spoiler alert in case you don't want to watch all two hours.... Miami won 33-30. Chicago couldn't tie it up at the end. No O/T.
