Let's talk SVL's!!! 2010 is coming fast!

Idle/wide open what else is there. What do ya think of the gokart like handling.

couldnt belive how well it handles!! very well mannered, now if i could just get the hood to stay on! would probably help to put the pins in before you take off... lesson learned there, always check hood pins! note to self, creates major wind drag when it blows off at w.o.t and starts floppin around on the drive! good thing i know a guy that does bodywork and paint....

did that a few times, on the trailer though. make sure you pin the hatch while trailering too. even a short trip to the ramp will blow it open.

Glad everything is going well.

I have done the same. Right at 40mph on the way to the gas station. I did make make it a week though:sifone:

At least it stayed on and I can fix it. I've had one blow completely off before and gone to the bottom. It's nothin a little bodywork and paint can't cure. Glad to know I'm not the only one it's happened to..

At the shootout this year I lost one hood pins. Jenni to the rescue. She had 2 or 3 large hair things stuck in her head. I adapted there now used for hood pins. Nobody really noticed except Jason from Powerboat.

Also the small ones will double as cotter pins.

OK, I lost a complete hatch in KW in 2000 I believe. Was flapping and finally came off on the F-1 boat. Never saw it again! I think I went threw 2-3 on that boat. If you are racing you just cant stop in my opinion. Thats why we have to paint them yellow on the inside.
A better story is I was in the SVL and had what I thought was a kinked water line in the out- drive. I had the hatch raised to look in the engine department first. It all looked good so a quick jump over board to check the hose was the next logical thing. LESSON LEARNED!!!!! when the boat is stopped and the hatch is up, most likely you will draw the attention of a hello to make sure you are alright. So here come the hello doing there job and I have my hatch up like a sail and the rotor wash rippes it off the raising shocks and slams it all the way back wide open. Guess who was in the water trying to fix the water pick up in the back of the boat. That hatch hit me like a ton of bricks and I was almost knocked out cold. If I didn't have my helmet on I would have been dummmmmber than I am now.
I have also forgotten the pins testing and have had it blow open. In our case's its not a stock factory replacement part. We all have custom air scoops that cost thousands to replace. That is except George. I still cant figure out what he has going on with that 3' tall scoop from the 70's. What ever it is its working.
If this has never happened to you then you don't test enough.

I think that's so he can remember where he parked it.......:sifone:

Well Randy,, acording to the wind tunnel test,,your scoop will work just fine,!! but what we have found is ,as the wind flows down the deck and hits the canopy windsheild and flows over the top ,,it flows down the engine hatch fine,,as you go faster,(lets say 90) when the wind hits the winsheild it tends to rise about 4 or 5 inches above the engine hatch,,,sooo with that techsplanation,,you might be able to figure out IMCO,S top speed.????

George, I think your wind tunnel test was done in your sleep when you were dreaming about flying the space shuttle to the moon. I have been in my motor compartment at 90 mph being towed down the road. I had a tool that test air flow and it registered some crazy numbers of fresh air coming in the scoop. At the time I knew the cfm flow of a 525 wide open and the air flow was 4-5 times higher. I agree more fresh cooler air is good but at some point you have to have a means of escape for the excess air or it means nothing. What goes in must come out or you will not be able to bring in any more cool air. I realize most Phantoms have there hatches raise on the hinges and thats good for more air flow. If you take water over the top will the water drip into your motor compartment? And if it does thats right where all your electronics are. Its a risk vs rewards thing. What ever you are doing its working but I dont think its the scoop. Ill put my money on the prop's and bottom work all day long.:bump:
