Fiscal Conservative, Social Liberal

I am a fiscal conservative, but a social liberal. That means I want to keep the money I earn, and I want to spend it as I see fit.

The currrent Democratic party is both fiscally liberal and socially liberal. The current Republican party is fiscally liberal and socially conservative.

Neither party appeals to me! :(

At it's core the Democratic party wants to save America from the "evils" of Capitalism. The primary "evil" is the uneven distribution of wealth.

This is why you see every Democratic administration from FDR (Social Security) to LBJ (Medicare) to Obama (Obamacare, and others) want to enact new laws to redistribute wealth.

I don't want the government to take a dollar from a person who earned it and give it to a person who didn't. This why I have voted AGAINST the Democrats for the past 30 years.

However... The Republican party (and it right-wing "Moral Majority") wants to save the "Soul of America". They want to do this by limiting your Freedom of Choice.

This is why you see every Republican administration fight to stop drug use, prostitution, gay marriage, abortion, etc.

I don't see anything "wrong" with personal drug use, prostitution, or gay marriage. These don't adversely affect me, so why should I want (vote) to outlaw them.

Republicans also want to save the "Soul of the World". This is why Republican adminstrations are more likely to begin and escalate wars.

It's the (expensive) wars that have led the Republican party away from being fiscally conservative and willing to run up huge deficits.

Where can I find a political candidate (and party) that will allow me to keep my hard-earned money and allow me the freedom to spend it as I see fit? :(

Looks like I will have to join the Libertarian Party

Smaller Government, Lower Taxes, More Freedom

The gay marriage is all about benefits for the spouse of the employee, so yes it can directly affect your compensation package from your employer.

Drug use could affect you too when some stoned idiot mows through a red light jonesing for a twinkie and takes out you or your family.

And the prostitution thing could lower the number of Claymates available for weekend cruises..... Heck if it were legal they might all be doing it and one of those cruises would cut into the bottom line, or cost you:ack2::willy_nilly:

Are you suggesting that if gays are allowed to marry, then more people will be "married" and that will have some affect on my compensation?

Do you really expect me to believe that the anti gay marriage group cares about my (their) employers benefits package?

No! The only reason the "Moral Majority" cares about gay marriage is because they think it is a sin. They want to limit freedom of choice. Period.

I don't want my freedom of choice limited by someone else's opinion.

Ha Ha! I will just assume you are making a joke. :D

However, you wouldn't believe all of the losers who think I pay the girls to come on my boat. :p

I agree. It has nothing to do with the cost of benefits. If it were then they need to start going after the people that marry like it's going out of style. They need to make gay marriage legal and at the same time make it a lot lot harder to get divorced. People might think more about it if it's almost impossible to get out of.

I think if you follow the money you will find both sides of the gay marriage debate are well funded by people that will benefit or be hurt by it. The Unions want the thing to pass as it expands benefits and they can get a better chunk, industry does NOT want it to pass for the same reasons. Come on, gays are 1% of the population and hard right religious people are about the same, do you think they could make this much uproar without larger forces at work?

I can make the same argument for alcohol. Are you sugggesting that we outlaw Miller Lite?

I agree about the alcohol and it is a HUGE problem and we all know it. Why would we voluntarily offer another substance to the public via legal means that could cause the same amount of wrecks and deaths? Or more?

I know we will never outlaw booze but why make more stuff available that can lead to killing innocent people trying to make a trip to the store?

And yes, outlaw Miller Lite. Bud Light is better. :cheers2:

My main point is the biggest reason they want to have gay marriage legalized is for the benefits. As far as the "moral majority" reason who knows or cares.

Well, yeah :sifone: But all the same, if they could all be legally making a grand a day at some bunny ranch somewhere, how many would come out on the boat for free? "Sorry Clay, gotta work, no  for you!" :sifone::sifone:

No love for me, huh? :(

BTW... Do you really think that if prostitution was legal that hundreds (perhaps thousands) of women in your town would quit their current jobs start having sex for money? You must have a very low opinion of women.

Don't get all sensitive, I said "Well yeah", I was making a joke. And you are correct the pros thing is silly because only a few women would still do it and then we could TAX them :sifone: :USA:

You, obviously, don't have much first-hand experience with recreational drug use.

And to use the same analogy that Clay makes re prostitution, what makes you think legalizing ANY drug will cause an increase in use? The biggest change will be re-direction of the associated revenue stream and related taxes.

"Honey, stop by the store and pick up a dime bag of heroin on your way home, I'm in an experimental mood tonight..."
