Birth of a Race Boat

Although the past 2 days have been without pictures, I assure you work has bees ongoing. Actually the boat is sitting in the booth ready to be painted, and will be back on the floor Monday ready to start final assembly. However, although there is not Mitch to show with the boat today, the engines are another story. It is finally tine yo reveal the source of the horsepower.

Outerlimits is using the race boat to unveil our in house engine program. Outerlimits is manufacturing engines using the finest componants and craftsmenship. All of our engines are tested on our Dyno. We are offering everything from rebuilds to complete EFI systems.

Stay tuned, as this boat will cone to life in a hurry.

Incredible thread.
And incredible looking boat.
Thanks for taking the time to document and share it with us all.
You know, it's threads like this that keep us "junkies" alive.
Thanks!

Under the raptor 41 vee you will see the specs for the boat (autoclaved)

The first cat was started at in California and it was a oven bake post cure to the Supercat rules at the time, then the rules changed banning rudder boats and that boat was killed, and the next three cats were built at Skater (popyes, cintron, geico) now the molds are back in California where they now have built a post cure oven for the cats.

There are (2) 41 Vee's One white and one black both were autoclaved. Very expensive way to do a boat. Very few places in the world that have an autoclave big enough for a 41 foot boat but they exist. I sent an email to Andreas to get pics. I have been pushing him to build the vee in standard ways to cut cost but he will not. I will get him to do a thread so as not to disturb this one.

Meanwhile.....

This thread has been pretty cool. It is great for Animalhouse post and Outerlimits to allow everyone to see the build of the new raceboat. Nice job and a nice product. Good luck at the worlds!

Shifter
Every country that has built a boat for the Americas Cup in the last 2 to 3 cups ( including Russia China and South Africa) has at least one, UK USA, OZ, NZ have multipe for 100+ footers.. There are some 60' ( maybe bigger?)pressurised ones as well
Boeing must have a whopper now as well!

Used in Nickel production as well..from a web site..(I didnt know this either...)
"The process involves acid leaching at high temperatures using sulfuric acid in a high temperature and pressure autoclave to dissolve the nickel and cobalt. (The autoclaves, to 30 m length and 4 m diameter, are produced in South Australia by the Australian Submarine Corporation involving the Detaclad process to bond titanium to steel). The autoclaves use a mixture of ore slurry and sulfuric acid at 280ºC under 5400 kilopascals of pressure. "
These autoclaves are made from explosion bonded titanium / steel

For several reasons powerboats are not ( never have been) at the cutting edge of grp construction but nice to see they are catching up!

Cheers
Great thread

Some Saturday progress. Boat is in the booth, making some oil lines, and starting final assembly on the motors.

Nice, I have that same Crimper:) I hated screwing in the old AeroQuip's especially for quad motor stuff, one guy would spend all day just screwing the ends on hoses:ack2: now you just pull the lever and viola:drool5:
