55 MPH Group in Poker Runs

That's a great idea. I'll be doing my first poker run this summer in Chicago, and I'd rather not blow my $hit up trying to run with faster boats. :)

One of the Upstate NY Poker Runs. Seneca Lake Poker Run, has a 50 MPH class, it gets people ino the poker runs. Of Course you are supposed to stay with the pace boat, problem is by the end I think of the run. The pace boat was doing 65. Kind of funny. But I think its a great idea.

The poker run also one year let the slow class go first, so they didn't have to eat all of the fast boats sloppy water.

Pretty sure we had a 55 mph limit when I ran the Lake George poker run 2 years ago. I was in a smaller boat then I am now, but I had a ton of fun running at that speed. I know all of the larger boats had the same speed limit (due to Lake regulations) and I think some of them weren't too thrilled about it, but I didn't hear anyone say they didn't have a good time.

I'm all for it.

As many others have said, I too support a 55 mph group for poker runs. I know several people who feel they are too slow to participate if they can't run in the 70+ mph range. I believe that anything we can do tp boost participation in our events we should take the steps to do so.

It whould be easier the find check points Marine shops won't like that:boxing_smiley:To be serious:) I think it's a good idea then do a seperate radar also run:leaving:

I ran Cumberland two years ago with some friends (acquaintances), and I recall them having a tiered speed thing. Denoted the different classes by the color of the sticker.
Fastest boats left first - which makes a lot of sense from a safety perspective.
My friends were sandbagging, and dropped down a class from what they really should have run, and yes, we were the first boat at the first card-stop.
I didn't say anything, I was glad to be invited. And, after all, it's not supposed to be a race. And, they own a performance boat, but, they aren't hardcore performance boaters. Running BTTW the whole run, wound up sacking a drive by the end of the run.
Expensive.
When I get my boat back together, I'm expecting to see a top of about 65-70.
I don't want to beat the death out of it to keep with the pack. I'd rather stick with the crowd, pick up a poker-hand, and have a few beers after the run, put my rig back on the trailer, wipe her down, and be ready to go out again next weekend. Instead of spending the entire week tearing down, ordering parts and repairing just to get back on the water.

Love the idea!

We offered this at our Lake George NY poker run a few years back mainly to keep law enforcement of our backs and also so that they would give us our proper permits to hold the event. The positive feedback from the participants was unbelivable. Of course you will always have the big dogs that want to run hard and fast, and thats ok, but I could not believe how many people said how much they enjoyed the event because they didnt feel intimidated or beat up after the run. We actually had pace boats leading 5 different speed classes. The format worked VERY well !!

NJPPC has had a 60mph for a few years now. When I had my Kryptonite it was real nice to just cruise at 60 and enjoy the run.

I like the idea. My boat tops out at 60 so I could run in this class with a big group. What I dont like is ive seen runs limit the length of the boats to 26 or 28 foot and mine is only 24 foot. But Im planning on rectifying that... hehehee

I have to agree with that.
Mine's a 24x7 - can't get more classic offshore than that.
Tell me I can't enter the run.
Phuck you - I'll run on the outside.
I'm willing to be a participant, and pay to be a part of the game.

55 MPH +- sounds great. here the problem. At least problems I had.

Not staying with the fast group, you loose some photo ops. OK.. no big deal. The choppers should make a point of covering the slower group. But they don't. Don't know why. (actually I do know why).. I been cut from many Vids.... but the worse part is when I'm in the back and taking a nice comfortable run.. I got lost. Last year at Sarasota, no GPS coord's were provided. I was wondering with the Muscle Fountain boat all over the Bay looking for the lunch stop and ended up at a ... well.. hmm.. a private party... Private party for awhm.. well... swingers? I think that's what you call them.. Besides, It would take me weeks to figure out my GPS. :leaving:.. So I run with my remote navigator Lenny.

An organized 50-60 MPH groups would be great.

See you at Ft. Myers. Lenny. Don't forget your GPS. :sifone:

Most runs are staged and that is a good thing. My girl and her friends hate my boat so I am liucky and can run in a faster class but poker runs and REAL fun in a big cruiser if the drinks are flowing and you dont have to drive

HEY PAL

Thanks for doing that for me without embarrassing me.

Now I can go on a PR with 12 people on board.

Thought I was going to just carry the water and sandwiches this year.
