103 in an svl ?

Technological advancements does not result in competitive racing...in offshore powerboats, stock cars, indy cars, formula 1 cars etc...If you look at the trend in most forms of motorsports;rules are consistently being implemented to limit technology. These rules are designed to control costs and create parity. This creates a better racing product for the fans, promoters and sponsors; and places the outcome of the races on the talent of the drivers and crews...not who spent the most money on equipment! This is what the NASCAR Car of Tommorrow is all about;and the Sprint Cup Series engines are still based on old technology.I guess if your in the business of selling hi tech racing equipment;you may not like when a sanctioning body deems that your product is not legal for a particular class or series. You certainly cant argue with the fact the APBA LLC's competition based rules model produced the best racing the sport has ever seen.It is a shame that the rules in all of the spec classes were not managed properly to prevent what we have left today.I remember when most of the spec classes had 15 or more boats in each class with very competitive racing and multiple winners. The real question is..how do we get back to that?

Very well said....

103mph in a SVL with a stock Merc 525....... Sorry but I highly HIGHLY doubt that.
Where is the proof at? Pics? Vids?

well I only remember one person saying ,,he saw 103 and they were along side him,,,,EVERYONE Else is calling it B.S. OR NOT A STOCK 525 ,,THATS ALL....
you pick your direction,,,but please don,t try to think for everyone.. I know we have a hand full of sh1t stirrers on here ,,most don,t have anything to do with this class,, ,,

Bout time you showed up again.:seeya: Dean and Smitty were running down the backstretch with them in the race at St Clair. The current was adding about 4 to 5 mph based on what the others have said.

How's the Lavey? Ready to come out and play?????:sifone:

Nascar like IRL and other forms of spec racing lead to what is known as a cast iron bull fight. People only tune in to see the "the wreck or the big one" there is no passing or actual racing until the final lap. If you want to win there is no cap on spending ask Penski. It is all entertainment. That is why monster trucks are sucessful. Boat racing is boring unless you are in it racing. Like Baja desert racing.

In F1 they banned Berillium in engines (rare metal) to control cost fine it cost. A minimum of 100 million per engine manufacture to retool and redesign and test. The simplist thing they did was to put a rev limit at 18000. That stopped the need to find exotic materials to achieve 22000 rpm. I am all for guidelines to keep things in check and away from unobtainium materials.

ALMS, ACO (le mans) are high tech and progressive forms of racing. TDI, green fuel, eco friendly oils, hybrid, fuel efficiency are all promoted in this form of high tech racing. Lots of sponsors and great racing and TV.

You guys keep missing the point I was making.
Put data on to control speed to a safe level and even out the fleet.
Cheap inexpensive and simple.

You can have all the all the rules you want but when they mandate parts that are prone to failure or unsafe then I have a problem with it.

Mike, You right it has been from 1996 till now and no sight of the caboose.

It was me that said 103mph and that is what we were doing when we went by them. We pulled them but not by too much and it was clearly much faster than any other SVL we went by. It was with the current in St. Clair. They ran absolutely perfect and even hung thru the turn later on

Everything's good except personal attacks. A frank discussion is even welcome.

I would like to get back on the bottom modification discussion. Is it a big deal or not? Does a certain design boat pick up 10mph just by tweaking? Should it be allowed within the rules if the width, height, and weight meet the criteria?

Any input??????

The point everyone thought you were making was move everything to GPS racing.

What kind of data, and restrictions for control, are you talking about?????

I was watching and would say you picked up a total of 200 feet in the 2 mile back, from the upstream buoy 2 to buoy 3 at the downstream entry......

F1 did much more than just limit the RPM.
They froze the engine not just the spec. The entire engine design and most all components were frozen for 3 years.
Engines must last 3 races or more or you face a 10 grid spot penalty.
Gearboxes are similar.
All teams (even Ferrari) must run the Mclaren ECM with open source code.
Engine suppliers must make engines available to customer teams.
Cosworth engines are allowed a more liberal spec as they are less expensive and customer only.
Testing was almost completely banned
They also went to a single tire supplier and greatly reduced the number tires available per weekend per car.
All teams must run both compounds of tire during the race unless the in-climate weather mode is enacted by Charlie Whiting.
Most significant is during this very time F1 is in 4 week annual shutdown/holiday where absolutely nothing can take place. This was also seen as a cost cutting measure.

That being the case the SV would be aproximately 3.48 feet per second or
2.3 MPH faster than the SVL. The pass should have been around 10 seconds side by side.

I would start with mandating a simple data logger. We run one. We log speed, rpm G force, satelite based time, location on course (+- aprox 15 meters) 40 times per second. This is simple and inexpensive.

Sorry Pat,

Offshore grew from 1997 to 2003 but has steadily declined since.

everybody does bottom work ,,,thats racing ,,,so what? even the fountain brand new at Biloxi had 2 feet sanded off ,,,,so what ,,,that is not the issue ,,,it,s all good ,,,and we,ll be back,,,have a great day ,,,DOOM IS LURKING,,,,DO NOT GET COMPLACENT,,,

How fast do the older SVL run 91, 92, 93?? Just put a GPS in the fountain and regulate his speed to that of the older boats.
