103 in an svl ?

I tested with Tyler Wednesday. (No we didn't spin.) It was like the shuttle craft with all the readouts, senors and computers taped to the dash. I gotta say he is on a mission and Smitty and Louie better have their A games on.

I was asked an interesting question the other day. Is St Clair 2010 the first race Smitty hasn't won where he finished without mishap????? I was told by the person they was positive it was.

This thread in my opinion has obviously run its course .

Most of the " banter " was actually based upon intellegent

questions and answers .

I got my answer, be it all , the fountain was still running 99 mph .

So I have a new question Will SVL be in KEY WEST ?:):cheers2::cheers2:

I take a guess at it ,,Out of the 12 live SVL.S 8 WILL SHOW UP ,,,THAT WILL BE A GREAT RACE...

I,LL also take a guess that ORANGE BCH will also see 8,, AGAIN A GREAT RACE,,

Hey Pat, you've done a lot of testing.

Will a slipping strain gauge work????? All boats in class have them. They are all tested and set at XXX Ft lbs force.

The most efficient setup gets the largest penalty, but thats bragging rights to sell your hull etc..

Any thoughts?

Strain gages will work. Separating torque spikes from real engine torque is a little difficult, video helps.

The ones I last worked with were $25,000 each. We had a ton of trouble keeping the 9 volt batteries from flying off. Now I think they would use lithium ion but I have not checked.

Thoughts.................

I think if you put them on 10 boats with 10 similar engines you will have 10 different HP/torque numbers to deal with.

You could dyno all the engines on the same dyno on the same day to verify they are similar.

Then run them in the boats but use one propeller and drive on each boat to verify all the hull slip numbers.

Then you would want to run one engine/drive/prop in all the boats to make sure the boats are even.

The same driver / throttleman

fuel amount all weighed and reset before each test out of the same drum.

CNC one type of prop with one cup one diameter one rake one manufacture and batch manufacture on the same pour of stainless then make sure they were all heatreated in the same batch.

On the other side the data can be a simple way to police the people that want to cheat and gain a hollow victory. Watch RPM and speed.

I do not think you need to go to the extent of running expensive torque sensors to make things evenish. There are too many other factors that make boats work.

pat what would you do if ,,,,,
one stand off box is 1 inch higher than the next one ,,
one boat had a flat trued bottom
one had a 1/4 hook
one had a 1/4 rocker
i could go on for ever ,,bottom line even in phantoms no 2 are alike even the merc engines are 40 hp different.. .

I say dyno the motors at one place ,,,merc 525 and the vortecs ,,,a 30 foot boat,,, bravo/imco drive,,, max diam ( ? ) prop,,,,,, very simple ,, i would bet you would be surprised who would not want this ???? any guesses ???

LETS RACE ,,,,,,,

Not gonna even guess....

I think you should persue this even more. Between Pat and Steve, sounds like there is a lot of knowledge to use and abuse. If everyone who designs and tests boats gets together, maybe the bottom isn't as big a deal as first thought. Rules would be something like;

Production hull from dedicated mold.

Bottom tweaking allowed, no additional steps or chines, relocation of steps or chines, etc. (One of the things I've never figured out here. What the heck is the official description of a "One-Off" hull?)

Height, Width, Length must match dedicated mold requirement. Only adjustment allowed, cut down of deck from windshield forward to enhance visibility for safety. not to exceed 10% of original height.

Data sensor of "X" brands must be used and removed by SVL official before ????

RPM, ?, ? will be checked.

Motors allowed, ?, ?, ?

Drive allowed, ?, ?, ?

Props allowed ?, ?, ?

Weight

Drive Height

Water Pickup

etc.

You guys are already very close. OSS, SBI, and the LLC rules don't differ all that much. Finish the dang rules, tweak them as required, and get everyone in the game. There's new boats waiting to be built and old boats waiting to be repaired and redone.

this needs to be removed ,,only because , persons with means ( $ ) build new boats ,,every time they want to try something new ,,most people commit to a single hull..but it is affordable to widen ,,narrow,,,shorten ,,ect,,, the bottom works ,,so I say don,t worry about the bottom ,, ,besides i,m sure their are company owners that would stand their and say ,,,,thats the way I built it ,,, imagine that ?? then their is no tech issues ,,kiss,,,

George .

Isnt that what the rules r now other then the 30ft rule ?

kinda close ,,we need the bottom rules clearified ,,,most are allready done ,,but for some reason ,,they asked me to remove the sharks teeth...so it all depends on who,s driving the bus that day and who is bending their ear,,,
