I have heard a Mac's the way to go for graphical representations. Problem is old habits die hard and i have used Corel for years. It works well for what i use it for but am hoping Rhino will take it to a new level.

Dave very nice work there, modern looking and accents the boats length nicely.

I always like to drag the boat length out with graphics if i can. The barbed wire thing i was just messin with i dont think i would actually use that, looks to much like a clip art wrap style graphic. I have seen TAOD use the same silhouette of that barbed wire as a background ghost image and it looked pretty cool though. Thanks for the compliment.


How long is the boat in post 563? That thing looks like it would be a fun boat.

LOL Artie there is a lot not shown and the bottom was just a "little" different on the actual working drawings.

Once you go to a MAC, there is no going back! Everything is so much easier, faster and more intuitive! I started out with Corel in the mid 90's, till this day, i believe Corel is a much easier and more user friendly program, and then there's the price...can't beat it. But, back then there wasn't the "save-as" and "export" options available and very few printers could work with a Corel file...so i made the switch to Adobe illustrator and photoshop - I am using CS4 now and even today, still find certain commands and selections unfriendly. Actually, Illustrator and Photoshop seem to be getting close to the same.

Attached is the very first boat i did on Corel, you don't even want to know how many hours it took me as this was started within my first month of using the program - my advice is stay with what you know and learn a CAD based program, it will not replace your Corel. And by the way, a MAC runs winblows programs now - even faster than a PC!

its funny i get that from pretty much everybody that is currently in a graphics related field but i still feel like i'm the only one using it lol. I guess the end result is similar with most good programs. I started using Corel in the late nineties and had the same learning curve, self taught and whenever i needed a certain operation done i knew it was in there somewhere and just had to find it. The latest version i have is very flexible and has many import/export features and works pretty seamlessly with all the other programs i use. I have Adobe Illustrator, FlexiPro, Corel and a few plotter specific programs. I always drift back to Corel but Flexi has some cool features and houses the best trace function but i find it just as easy to re make an original from scratch if need be.

I have seen that illustration you posted above. I like that cutaway i haven't done any thing like that yet as all mine are for graphics jobs, cool stuff. One of my good friends (and the guy that got me started in Corel) is an illustrator from way back and did some amazing stuff in ink. He has this exploded/cutaway transmission that he did for Dana that is simply incredible. Heres a couple of raw templates i did for the rudder MTI's, these took me about an hour each to do. Also a BPM drive i did for an illustration needed by a friend of mine.
