Opinion wanted

Have not been to the new hard rock. Was at the old.

Last time that I went I stayed at the Rio and saw Penn and Teller from the second row. I played the 2 oclock comp game. They hold the best seats for comps, then... at 2pm they release the comps. Line up in front of the concierge at 1:59 and when you are helped, ask if their are some released comps. Now... you have to pay full price for the seat, but you get a last minute primo seat to almost anything. Then you walz into the show a minute before it starts and snag your primo seat in front.

Alright, I just went back and read the opening post in this thread:

Are we turning it into just a party? Is that what we really want?
Or do we want to set up a convention room for vendors to bring a small display and set-up to drum up biz/create relationships with the members of the board? - but in a non-sales setting, more of a "we're all here to have a good time, but I'm going to show you product/bust your ballz/have a drink in my hand while I do it" kind of thing.
I think that would be a lot more comfortable for all.
The vendors are already going to be feeling the upcoming pressure to make sales in Miami.
If they have a chance to make some contacts and party with some of the people at this event that will also be going to Miami, they have a better chance of making sales to them in Vegas.
I see it as a better and more relaxed way of introducing vendors and consumers.
Sounds like a win-win to me.

I would think that we need to have some estimate of attendance for the industry type "exhibitors" so that they can make a fair evaluation of the cost/benefit.

How warm is it gonna be?

Don't know.
Moving to PHX next week, and I can tell you when I was out there the week before Christmas, it was only highs in the 60's and Vegas had snow on the ground for the first time in 20-30 yrs.
You know - global warming thing going on...

Should we start a thread, with a sticky, where we ask who would attend Jan 23 weekend, 2010, Las Vegas SO get together?

0 to 25%, 25% to 50%, 50% to 75%, 75% to 99%?

And see what mfgr's etc. also are interested?

Snow's not good for a Poker Run:sifone:

Count might be better than percent. Poll might be the lesser of evils.

We might want to lock a few things down. Democracy is beautiful... but there may be advantages to deciding on hotel before we ask who would go.

Agreed.
And I'm thinking they would just put up a small display if any (for some of the smaller guys) just to shake some hands and make acquaintance with some of the members and potential customers.
Maybe let them set something up in the same room we're gonna have the food-fight - err I mean dinner:sifone:

Right. Like they would have no extra costs other than attendance. And they could book individual appointments with people they need to see. I used to set times with my vendors when I went to CES. We would meet anywhere. Want sushi? We meet at Hamada... whatever. Or even at the hotel bar or in a room.

It works too. I own a Jeff Rowland Design amp because I met Jeff at his room at Alexis Park and he had a little display set up. Same with Audio Physic. I bought their speakers after I hung out with them at Rio.

Let's see if we can have Stecz talk to some vendors - he seems to be a main contact for many.
If he's too busy, we'll divvy it up.

Count would help out alot on arranging group rates/discounts.
The hotel thing is where we need some help - just settling on a place.

The only reason I see to get a preliminarly estimate would be to see if it warrants conference rooms for mfgrs displays etc.

And, how well the Jan time frame really is. For us, we would be (2) in the 75% to 99% range.

You're always happier buying a product from someone you've partied with:sifone:

Lookin on Expedia, everything is so cheap right now there could be anything. 3 star and above strip hotels, there are many with rooms as low as $30 and up. Excaliber, Sahara, etc.

As much as we joke about it, I highly doubt that we are going to be a group that causes actual trouble. We could stay anywhere. Small groups could always break off and do the Vegas Ballet or whatever. I would want to go out for dinner a couple of times someplace good.
