Where to purchase crate motors?

Keep in mind, the coated bearings make clearances tighter so machine accordingly!! I check every single clearance before assembly, not plastigauge. My buddy shims the oil pumps for me to keep pressure up with looser clearances..

How do you check without final plastiguage?

I forget what the tool is called but you can mease the inside of the bearing and then another to measure the crank also, A buddy helps me do mine, to get the most accurate measurements, I bet an engine builder can tell you what they are called...I think we used a mike on the crank, but not the bearing..that was another tool

I was just curious because I would think there would be some chance of deforming if the bore wasn't perfect also.

I'll check. I always thought final, plastiguage was best. Hmmmmmmm

You mic the crank and the install the bearings in the rod/main and dial bore (inside mic) the mains/rods in multiple positions, then subtract the difference.

That's what we've always done, but still plastiguage after. You don't think that's necessary either?

Personally I don't like plastigauge. I've had multiple times where I've used it, took a reading, did it again and got a different reading.. One time I did it 3 times and got 3 different readings so I threw it out and don't use it anymore. Gets to be a PITA pulling the crank on/off etc....:lurk5:
