Where the $200,000+ Crowd Lives

I agree, it rings of the same audacity that Bill clinton said to WWII vets that they may have to sacrifice...The gall of that man, we lost more soldiers on D day, in one day than we have lost in Iraq for 5 years. and he has the nerve to tell people to sacrifice. Yet he and his wife are spending our money to redecorate the white house...its apalling...."let them eat cake"

I agree, but

Let them eat hog joules and chitlins.:26:

I know people "survive" on 45K a year, but what good is life if you're just surviving? It's ok to make that money........................while you are building your business so you can make 500k. If thats not your plan you're just a lazy POS. The only exception are people who do jobs like police, teachers etc

Where I'm from 45k is considered middle income. I know many families that life on that amount and have nice homes and vehicles.

You have to remember, a 3 bedroom 2 bath home does not have to cost 200k to buy and 5k a year in taxes.

I like to think of it as "real" america. I would consider 25k or less lower income.

DC is #1

MD is #4 and also #4 in highest median income is $65K. That may be ok in some parts of the country but in this area you would most likely be a renter in a bad part of town with a window shaker A/C unit driving a used car that needs tires and a timing belt with a manual transmission and going out to dinner is some thing that happens on your birthday.

My car needs tires??? :seeya::sifone:

It's not too tough to get by if you know how to handle debt, live within your means and have your priorities straight. It seems our family has always been "up" when things were "down"...we were able to build our house during the last recession when few were building, and things have tended to always even out over the years. :)

But it may have caught up with us now -- this week my wife might lose her job of 20 years, and that would cut our income in half. With what we have left on the mortgage and the very modest equity loan we used last year for home upgrades and the boat, we'll be just a little better than where we were [in adjusted costs/income] 16 years ago, when we built the house. Hopefully it will just be a speed bump. Luckily, my daughter was smart enough to get a full college scholarship so all we have to pay for her is one more year of room & board. Two of our three cars are paid for, the other one will be next year...and we don't live off credit cards.

If the worst happens, we'll be OK. We'll take part of my wife's severance, pay off the daughter's last year's R&B, and use most of the rest to pay off a chunk of mortgage & equity loan, thus reducing those payments. We already have most everything we want/need; my vices are boats and beer--my wife likes sitting by the backyard pool, sipping tiki drinks. Come to think of it, those are my vices, too. :26:

I've always been a "glass is half-full" type of person; I won't complain too much when I see so many other people who have lost all their income, their homes, and maybe more. So, I refuse to b*tch about possibly having to take a few less boat trips this year. Well, maybe I will a little bit..
:cuss:

being in school fulltime, I made 13K last year, it will be worse this year. previously I was pulling about 40k...want to know why I left CAlifornia for Ohio?? I made 39k @ $9.00 an hour. Yes cali is nice, but when you are either at work or sleeping.....

Yup. The area I live in rural OH is relativly poor, 35 to 40k is about the average annual household income. There are basically 3 kinds of people around here, the ones who had half a brain and a little ambition and made soemthing of themselves, about 20%, the ones who know their mental and physical limits but still work damn hard for a modest income about 70% and then there are the redneck white trash wellfare rats 10% or less. I'm one of the highest paying contractors in the area and most of my employees make 45K and less and none of them are lazy. One of my guys is the type who is just thrilled to be alive and healthy, he comes to work every day with a smile on his face and not a care in the world. He lives a good life and is gratefull for every minute of it, he also makes far less than 45k a year. He has my utmost respect, and sometimes a little envy.

People like that are keepers. Make sure you do the right things for him to remain.

Where the $200,000+ Crowd Lives

The White House's budget for fiscal year 2010 calls for tax hikes on wealthy Americans. In this case, that means couples making over $250,000 a year and individuals $200,000 a year. Under the budget plan, these households (about 3 percent of the total) would experience tax increases of $318 billion over the next 10 years. Here's a look at the states that will be most affected by the tax hike and how they voted in the last presidential election.

Texas ranks 14th

% of Households Earning $200K+: 3.9%
Total Households: 8,244,022
Households Earning $200K+: 313,681
Median Income: $45,294

Where does your state rank?

Interesting to see that the 200K crowd states voted for Obama, all but Texas. At least Clays state did thier part.

Ditto Tony!

People making $45000 are the norm in many areas.....and they live very happy lives.

My employees start at $600 a week/ 31K a year in S. FL and I let a guy go this time last year that was making 42K a year for slacking off. I told him that after 10 years on the job that he knew better and should appreciate this job because with his high school education there was nothing better out there for him. He replied the job gave him no "job satisfaction" to which I replied it did give you a nice check for 35 hours a week.

Fast forward 1 year, he is living with his 70+ year old mother, unemployed with NO unemployment being collected since he caused his own termination. I would love to call and ask if he has "job satisfaction" now. I replaced him with a kid that works twice as hard, is thrilled to be working and I still save 11K a year.........not a bad deal!

It's funny, I have a girl who works for me who's a hard work and does a great job. She also complains that she doesn't have a passion for what she does... She gets paid "median" for someone in this area and never finished high school. I always figured that if it was fun, they wouldn't have to pay you to do it....

I live in a house that cost me 10x as much as it would have cost if I'd bought the same place where I grew up, yet I only make about 2x as much as I'd make living there and doing the same job. I think I'm finally starting to realize who the dummy really is in all of this... :seeya:

WTF.. Right now $45K / year would be just freeking great. Try to "survive" on ZERRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, since no new contract lined up for my company.
GEEEiiissssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhh...... 12K for boating alone. How about contributing some of the "entertainment" budget for my parents, and me moving them to NJ, since both of their health is in deep chit. The last thing in my mind is "survival" or the medium income. Anybody checked how much an O2 tanks costs for my Dads breathing need?
I could fil up my boat pretty often for the O2 tanks we been using. GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrr

quit sniveling and become a democrat, then you can just not pay your taxes, if they ever catch you, just say oops, honest mistake.

do you have an 02 machine or are you going bottle to bottle?? they should have set you up with a machine, greatly lessening the bottle use. also get a larger cylinder if you are using the really small ones. you can usually get somebody at the local fire dept to refill them as long as you don't wear out your welcome. but I'm guessing your dad is retired, medicare should take care of the 02 AND provide a machine, you can also get a machine that refills bottles. If you need a larger cylinder let me know, I have a couple. I can't ship them full thow, but it will give you greator time between refills. they should (M-care) set you up with an 02 saturation monitor, that will lt you keep tabs on your dads sats, so you only give him 02 when he needs it. If there is anything at all I can help you with, just ask.

Thanks phrag. Dad got an O2 machine,, that plugs in and have a long plastic tube for him to walk around. Insurance pays for the "home machine", but we had to buy the bottles for the move to NJ. (from Chicago) We used up 6 and one partially. We got 2 left for him to go to doctors visit etc. The small tanks are for portible use, going to.. places. Etc. Dad is on constent O2. :( We are ok tho.... Thanks for your note.

kep the firestation thing in the back of your mind, when traveling or whatever, most stations can either refill or will swap you out, keep in mind they will most likely have 'D' cylinders and can refill any cylinder as long as it has a standard regulator (big hole for 02 and 2 small holes for alignment pins) to the standard 2000 psi. if your going to be doing more long duration traveling, consider an inverter with the home 02 machine in the trunk, or "E" cylinders which will last a lot longer than the "d"'s. if he's on more than 3 lpm, you really want to think about the inverter setup
