Where the $200,000+ Crowd Lives

The White House's budget for fiscal year 2010 calls for tax hikes on wealthy Americans. In this case, that means couples making over $250,000 a year and individuals $200,000 a year. Under the budget plan, these households (about 3 percent of the total) would experience tax increases of $318 billion over the next 10 years. Here's a look at the states that will be most affected by the tax hike and how they voted in the last presidential election.

Texas ranks 14th

% of Households Earning $200K+: 3.9%
Total Households: 8,244,022
Households Earning $200K+: 313,681
Median Income: $45,294

Where does your state rank?

At the risk of reveaking too much about myself, I make between $100K and $200K, so this first round of tax hikes won't affect me.

But, I was amazed at the "median income" number of $45K. How does a household live on less than $4000 a month???

They don't own boats or date women:biggrinjester:

Here's an interesting graph if you can read it.

At the risk of sounding rude....you seriously think everybody makes 100K a year?

Of course not. But, if the median income is $45K a year, then HALF of the households make LESS than that! Yes, when I was 20 I made less than the median household income, but I could never survive on $45K now. :(

P.S. My total boat expenses (minus gas) is around $1000 a month or $12K a year. It's my only toy. It's my "vacation". I don't consider it all that expensive. When I think of all the good times I have had on my boat plus all the good times to come, I think that $12K a year is fairly cheap! :D

People do it all the time....unfortunately.

I work with a guy that is having his 6th kid (he just turned 30--they are Catholic and don't believe in birth control), but she stays home and he works. They do not go out, they have a van that is paid for, his car that he bought a few years ago with a payment of no more than $100 each month, and they do things that don't cost a lot of money (state park camping, utilize company salemens cabins, condos, etc.).

There are many who live on less than $4000 a month...many!

And BB's right...they don't own boat, they don't eat out. They stay at home.

You wouldn't have cable (basic cable is $40 a month), high speed internet (cause you probably wouldn't own a computer), things we most likely take for granted.

I pray I never have to find out what it would be like.

Obama's trying to make us all find out, unless you're in Government. Kind of like the old socialist and communist countries.

When I came off the road and the store was in it's infancy, our household dropped close to 50,000....our life style changed big time

If you have to do it, you can. We have become so accustomed to living our lives and spending what we have, and spending what we don't have.

You might not like that you had to live on $45,000 a year, but people do it everyday. Some do it better than others.

My company may have their 3rd layoff in less than a year. I've been there almost 12 years but I'm still nervous.....more so because of the lack of benefits, not so much the income even though that will hurt....I make decent money. Rob's business is doing well fortunately, and if I get laid off, bye-bye part-timers and I work for him. And then we start selling things.......ouch.

Survival mode kicks in when needed.

Can you imagine living on Minimum wage? $6.55/hr full time 40hrs a week = $13624 a yearor $1134.33 a month. Yea that's going to go up to $15080 ($1256.67/mo). At those income levels you don't qualify for much assistance from the gov. It's no wonder people don't work and have kids. They get more assistance for not helping themselves then they do for keeping a full time job.

I think find it disgusting that our beolved President, who has welched off of our society all his life, has the AUDACITY to tell us how we should live and how much we should contribute back to society. Easy for him to say now that he's guaranteed taken care of for life (by us again). Arogant MF'er. He's already running this country deeper into the ****ter with his liberal agenda. As long as he continues to be a proponent of giving our money away there is less incentive for those below the median income level to want or have to do anything in the way of work. INCOME AND WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION; exactly what many of us were afraid of is coming to a harsh reality.

I agree, it rings of the same audacity that Bill clinton said to WWII vets that they may have to sacrifice...The gall of that man, we lost more soldiers on D day, in one day than we have lost in Iraq for 5 years. and he has the nerve to tell people to sacrifice. Yet he and his wife are spending our money to redecorate the white house...its apalling...."let them eat cake"

DC is #1

MD is #4 and also #4 in highest median income is $65K. That may be ok in some parts of the country but in this area you would most likely be a renter in a bad part of town with a window shaker A/C unit driving a used car that needs tires and a timing belt with a manual transmission and going out to dinner is some thing that happens on your birthday.
