What to do in Detroit?

I worked in Ann Arbor for years - flew my a$$ from Houston to Detroit on a weekly basis. Hated the airport. Hated the snow. And really hated those fukkers in Dearborn on 9/11 as they were all outside celebrating what had just happened. Only good time I had in that state was a boat trip to Makinaw Island - that was a really good trip and worth the ride from Rogers City up ....

Other than that - it's a hell hole.

Hey X Rated.... I was thinking about it while I was driving home... when I have been within an hour or so of a member... they have often hosted me.

Can myself or a couple of us up here buy you dinner one of those two nights? Especially if you are just shooting up here by yourself and turning back around. Let me know. Maybe one or two of the Michigan or Ohio guys would join us.

Cross the river and visit a couple peeler bars .

Yep, the Canadian Ballet.:sifone:

You could always play a game of "Dodge the Bullet".
But you could possibly be doing that anyway.

If the Red Wings are playing, Joe Louis Arena is the BEST place I've ever seen a hockey game.

I might be interested in that if I'm around.

More people get killed per year in Detroit than in Baghdad!

Horrible city! :(

Another very liberal Democratic city is Detroit--where no Republicans hold an elected citywide office. Disproving Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s contention that it is the white power structure responsible for the African-American dilemma, the mayor, the district attorney and eight of the nine city council members are black. No white guys to blame in this city, just liberal Democrats. Again, when we separate Detroit from the rest of Michigan we find the gun crime problem concentrated in the Democratic areas with Detroit’s 8% of the state's population perpetrating 59% of the murders. That puts Detroit’s murder rate above Jamaica’s, which is the third highest in the world. And Jamaica’s gun laws may be the most restrictive in the world. Possession of a single bullet, with or without a gun, is punishable by life in prison.

Wow, I can't believe how ****ty of a place I live.

As stated by anyone who actually knows the area, there's plenty of fun to be had. The Flight Club and a few other "bars" are worth visiting.:sifone:

Dearborn has some pretty cool places to eat as well and is close to the airport area, Cheli's Chili (owned by Chris Chelios) is a pretty cool bar, and there are several more up and down the street there in downtown Dearborn. If you've never had middle eastern food, it's worth giving a shot for lunch and there's tons of them in Dearborn (I love chicken shwarma and only discovered if after moving up here).

If you're going to be away from there, name the area and there is sure to be something fun nearby.

There's actually alot about Detroit I liked.
There are some cool things, Like I said, going to JL Arena for a Wings game is an experience!!
Go to Greektown for a pizza at Papillo's - I made the trip there once by boat from Toledo just to have a pizza, I spent 15x on fuel than I did on the pizza, but it was one of the best days of my life.

There are also some very rough areas.
I recall going up there at about 19-20yrs old to see a band, and getting lost and twist-turned around.
Saw one of the funniest things I've ever seen, A guy sitting on a parking block with a watermelon that was obviously smashed in half over the parking block, and he was scooping watermelon out with his bare hands.

The D isn't that bad, no worse than any other major US city. Spent about 5 years working up there in all of the neighborhoods, good and bad. Back then Birmingham/Royal Oak area was good for the bars, lots of cougars :D :D
