Were's Mystifire ?

Hey Paul, there's a blast from the past. Haven't seen that boat brought up in years. No one has ever found it? Did anyone ever completely figure out Mystifier's lineage? I think the last time Charlie was looking into it, it went something like:

1. The second Ajac Hawk, 37'6" length, built and unveiled in 1978 in Argentina with Jerry Jacoby and Bobby Saccenti, raced from 1978 to 1981. Built by putting a block in the 39 Cigarette hull mold and using the 36 Cigarette deck mold. Became the "Top Gun" model. Won the US and World championships in 1981.

2. Became Cigarette Hawk after Jerry purchased Cigarette from Aronow, raced in 1982.

3. Then became Super Brut, after Faberge became the sponsor, raced in 1983. First race the 1983 New Jersey Offshore Grand Prix.

4. Then became Mystifier sometime, raced from ? to ?. Won the 1994 Key West Vee World Championship. Finished 3rd overall. Last race known to be in may be Miami 1n 1997? Finished 1st in in Modified in Islamorada's Rio Cristal in 1996.

Is this correct as far as you know?

yes ajack was the boat

Okay, I'm not absolutely positive, but I think our people have found it. From what I recall, and from re-reading some of Charlie's and others information, I believe the boat was unveiled as a 1979 model, but actually unveiled in 1978 in Argentina. I'll shoot Charlie an email. I also think FastDonzi may know a lot about the boat. Here's an older thread.

Mike may know if the inside was painted orange when it was redone black for the change from Cigarette Hawk to Super Brut. If so, this boat must be it. I'll get the sighting up and then I'll put in some of the comparison shots I have from the older configurations.

My gut tells me this is the boat you're looking for, but the only way to find out for sure is to go look at it after we get some input from those familiar with the boat. How well do you know the setup of the engine compartment etc? I cannot currently believe there were two 1979 37'6" Cigarette raceboats. But.........

Here are some comparison pics from the other thread and from Cigarette Hawk and Ajac Hawk.

I shot emails off to Charlie and Mike.

Cigarette Hawk, the photo of the boat with racing number 8 is a 39 foot boat. This was the mold that Ajac Hawk was taken from after it was blocked down to 37.6 feet.

AJAC was the name of Jerry Jacoby's company that made transmission parts. The name was short for Arlene Jacoby.....Jerry's wife!

I cannot remember any other 37.6 Cigarette that was around in that era, 1978, 79, 80 or 81. Why not check the number on the transom to see the build date?

Around 1985 I worked for "Trick Paint". We Re-Painted the Boat Black and put the name "Terminator" on it. Then it was Owned by C&G. Last I heard was, it got Confiscated. I don't know why, I don't see that they added any Big Deck Hatches. I had ALOT of Pictures of it but some Ho stole my truck and my whole Photo album of all the cool boats I painted was in it.

I always wondered where it went. You'd think being such a successful boat it would have been around more. There was another that looked just like it (When it had the AJAC Paint job) "Panama Hawk". Though they looked identical I think the Panama Hawk boat was 35'. I know it was faster. Richie Powers had it over 90. the Ajac was a mid 80mph boat at the time.

That boat in the Pics from Xplode is Not it. Unless someone somehow sanded/Removed the 3 ribs off the deck. In the Ajac & Brut Pics the ribs run right down the middle of the strips. I guess it's possible they removed them, but if not, that's not it. IDK

Charlie is on his way back to Florida and will do some more research. Can you think of any 37'6" Cigs made in 1979? I've been digging and have not found another one yet. As Charlie said we'll try to get the HIN off of it.

Wasn't Panama Hawk the original Ajac Hawk, the 35' that Jacoby raced before the 37'6"?

This is the only other 1979 38' race Cig I've been able to find so far, (but still digging). Once again a smooth deck.
