3 blades - We are looking to try a pair of large 3 blade props in the 17.5/30 range. Anyone have a set to try/possibly purchase

Hey Lucy

Have fun in the Med I am so jealous....I expect to see pics, lots of pics!!!!!

Ive been given different opinions on 3 vs 4 blades. Most people (Cobra engines ect) say 3 blades will give you a higher top speed. 4 blades more speed per rpm in the mid range but lower top speed. Jimmy from the Marine shop told me the right set of 4 or 5 blades would give you a higher top speed. He had experience from Predator but Predator had around 1200Hp and #6's so different combination. Yellow Warpath has a combination closer to your 41 850Hp and 3a's.

17.5/32 4 blades is probably a good combination for that set up, but if you are looking for more pick up... call Jeff at Herring propellers!

U all need to remember, Doc can NOT run over 94.9 MPH in the class he is racing it..
also the faster he gets there the better chances of winning he has..this class is not about TOP speed, its a drag race up to 94.9 MPH and be able to stay there....u go over , U LOSE..u don't have enough acceleration and somebody else is 1 boat length infront of u ..U LOSE !!!!!!!

i say 16.5 X 31-32 4 blades and gear the boat for 1:68 so its like first gear in a car..and run it !!!!!!!

The smaller the diameter the faster they spool up , see if u can find them in a 18* rake, or higher and they will bite.
But what do i know.....

I think Daredevil is on the right track. First things first. You need to be able to get accurate information to determine the difference any changes made. Do you have a reliable accurate gps ect? Maybe Im underestimating the fact this boat is lighter than my boats ,but to be honest I have to doubt with its current set up, it could hit 95mph and stay there for a whole race, specially if relatively heavy on fuel. If it does. I believe, it would compromise a lot of its acceleration. I dont know how much difference 1" diameter makes but from my experience 17.5x32 4 blades are much too big for 800hp engines to turn. I believe 17.5x32 3 blades would be closer to what you would need for top speed.

Thanks for the input, our goal is to be able to accelerate as fast as possible to 95 (conditions allowing) with approx 120 gallons at start. Will be testing more on the 21st. Still looking to try a set of 3 blades if you are in the nj shore area. Thank you

distribution of fuel is important on that boat, :driving: no more of 20 gallons on each side front and back... run of your center tanks! check under your pillow for your props maybe the tooth fairy was there!:D
