There was supposed to be a truck doing a back flip and land it. That was in conjunction with the Robbie Madison jump. The day before they were doing a practice jump and the truck completely cleared the boxes ,that were to soften the landing ,and landed on the ground, nose first. Guy got hurt pretty bad.
You don't do these, with RedBull support, without having a 99% idea of the outcome.
Not to take anything away from Travis or the stunt, I'm a big fan, but the landing ramp is about twice as high as the takeoff. Makes for a very cushy landing. Big brass to jump onto a barge with limited room to maneuver...and stop.
Holy crap...hadn't seen that! But once again, a Red Bull production. No guarantee it's going to be perfect but they were about as close as anyone's going to get. Imagine what it took to figure out the launch ramp that collapses after the front wheels hit it. And if he had a step-up landing it wouldn't have just dropped out of the sky.
