The Great Unification

I just class boats by what the cost to build, and operate.

I don't see how a twin cat, and a twin vee class is the answer. Cost almost the same to build, and the same to operate. Why dulute the field with 2 types of boats that really cost the same. The Cat goes faster with the same power. Why would anyone want a VEE?

SVL as a permire class yeah it can be. It just takes more boats.

A race boat is just a TOOL to get around the race couse. The loyalty to a boat type is what is also hurting the sport.

I'm I biases to SVL yes because they make sense. Its good racing, and affordable.

Cat Outboard makes sense.

Cat Lite makes sense fast enough, and they do not break.

Buy the best tool to get the job done.

Nice reply Mark,
In 2006 there were 10 SCL, after each race there was arguements over who cut who off,
who's fault the glass damage was etc.

From a die hard fan, IMO SCL and SVL have been the best racing! I also really like Cat OB, and watched the X-cat video recapping 2009, it is awesome watching that many boats race in a single class.

Politics is preventing unity, and ego's are preventing racing!

2006 had a full boat count in every class. 40 boats strong at the races.

SV died first with the intro of the new fountain and 6s.
Followed by COB and SCL then the fragmentation of the SC.

Vee Lite, COB, and SCL still have a chance to survive

Well let me answer your post..... I am in agreement with the following;

SVL
SCL
X-Cat or Cat outboard

questionable is Super V and Super cat with the big power or whatever ok

You have the extreme guys out there with the turbines they aren't leaving love them or hate them they are here to stay....So let them have the extreme class for turbines!!!!

So why cant the cats and vees run together and a set of rules to maintain the parity between them and run them as an open class!!!!

All the V's would race well against Cat lights. Thing is they wont want a 525 Cat boat to kick their butts. Put them with 750/850 cat and they will all cry foul.

Racers buy the best TOOL.

Amateurs race what they own.

These are the statements that rub people the wrong way. Racing is racing. Some of the best competition today sorry to say, is in class 5. These guys have ten times the experience and seat time you do. The word amateurs should be used a little more carefully.
I raced a boat that I owned. You dont want any part of that thing. Just a piece of postive advice. Smitty

Exactly, it's priceless to see superduperveeunlimitedextreme get it handed to them by a 525 cat. There is a reason Open class died. It was called the Skater.

ok I just have to point this out.....you give me a 100 miles in 6'+ water.... I will take a super vee against your 525 cat light and make it a race.....if you remember back in the day like 2000 era that the super vees were outrunning the super cats no matter what water conditions were!!!!!

Sean,, Nice try. The Super V's have never out run the Super cats. In 2000 the superVs were going 140 with 1200's and the Supercats like Drambuie were going 160's. It takes 1500's in a V to run with Supercats.

The 100 miles in 6' hasn't happened in at least 10years. Maybe longer.

I do agree if it were to happen it would be a good race.

they don't race in that water today, stop living in the past. If today's extreme vee's are any indication, none of them would make 100 miles anyway.

Amsoil in Clearwater averaged 96. Ahead of Panasonic and the rest of the superV's.

Yes , it would be a race in open water, but sadly those days are gone.

SuperV extreme last year in Key West averaged only 76 or 78 over 3 days.
Not even as fast as the Cat Outboards as I recall

Only those in denial or still think it's 1988 don't realize these facts. :sifone:

Although, if the vee guys think they can run in one class, then by all means let them in. I'd like to see an Open class. Combine every single 750/850 cat, every SV, SVE, SVU or whatever you can throw in one. That would be a 12-15 boat class easy in KW. Somehow I doubt any of those V guys are going to agree to that though. They don't even want to run against each other.

perfectly said:USA: smitty it,S not ment as a condisending remark, they are boats that were on the side of the house with the rear seat removed,, like the camaro you strip and take to the stock car track and run in street stock, not a late model custom built with chrome molly frame ect... not saying they can,t put on a great race,,, they do , purpose built boats for racing is maybe a better way to say it. p class racing is great, tell me of a p class racer that wouldn,t give u his boat,, truck,,and car to race the amsoil scl ? in that case they put their ego,s aside, any other coment is condisending,, come on we all started in p with a dream of moving up. i went from p-5 to svl oooooo big deal but to me it" is " now your challengeing a v lite with your big super v ,,what will that get ya.. probabley ////????? i,ll let it go.

Class 5 is great racing, but is bracket racing, it doesnt make them less in any way shape of form. They put their heart into it just like the rest.

Defining National Championship in a class that is historically a divisional class does not make a lot of sense.

And to stimulate growth in any organization one would think, a National title should go to a class that is run on a international scale. CatOB is a example where say Gary Ballough/Paul Whittier are National Champions. When they race X-cat in the Middle East
they represent The USA, as well as themselves as the best from here.

Mark and George lets not judge others. No good will come of this.

There are different views all are worthy.

that just it THERE IS NO JUDGEMENT going on ! i agree with smitty and you were trying to put a lot of classes in a small space, :willy_nilly: JIM read my post again ,,, i said i CAME from p5 to svl ,, it,s a step i,m proud of ,,, maybe not to p-3,2,1,,,, but to me it is,, i know the sacrifice it takes to do this , why ???? bottom line racing is like a totem pole ,, unless you know and except where u fit in, youll live in denial,, unless you can hide behind an ego, there is 30 classes in offshore,,, the problem is not with the 5 p classes . it,s all the ego,s that want to race against knowone to get a checkard..hell it,s got so out of hand ,,, some don,t want to even race and expect a title?,,, we all can post here till were blue in the face, look at the people doing all the posting, they have the least power to do anything, the 4 that do ,,, they don,t even make a statement, but we all enjoy talking about it so this is our avenue,

But, if that's the truth in today's economy. You have to win to get sponship in the extremely expensive elite classes, work with it. Common sense says play to your strengths. I don't care if you hand out 10 flags in a 20 boat heat. Just make them as similar as you can for now in average lap speed, and hand out an extra flag, trophy, and prize money for the "Top Gun" of that heat. Then have a Top Gun National Champion from all races points combined or something.

Like Jim said, a 525 boat may have won that distinction in Clearwater????
