The Great Unification

hey Trent hows everything? ...just curious. Shouldnt you be in Ft Laud? I would think all your sponsors would love to see their team running.

Class 6,5 and SVL's that have the boat count...and I hope the new SV class is the next in line...[/QUOTE]

If someone showed up in a new 42 fountain wouldn't that kill the class again, or are the speed limits still in place? I could see buying a used boat for the class, but building a new boat would not make much sense.

Doing great Bruce! One of the boats is down there(making appearances around FtL), with my mother having a stroke a few days ago(in the hospital) and my father needing constant care nowadays, I felt my place was to take care of the issues at hand with them.

Thanks for your interest in my well being, it warms my heart....

Im not a fan of HP/weight racing. The older the boat is the less chance it has. That class is all about efficency. The newer boats at the same weight with better bottoms that are faster will dominate the older non step boats. Am I missing something? The cost of R&D in that class is way out there. The least expensive, fairest racing I know of is spec racing. Bracket racing is what it is and has its place as well. The bottom line is no one is buying or building a race boat if things dont change. Time for some rebuilding of offshore racing. This is the perfect time to do it. A bad economy which means less teams, which means less teams to please when rebuilding. We need a low end class like SVL that many can afford and a priemier class like Cat lite that is reliable for teams with deeper pockets. We dont need speeds of 150 MPH plus where the risk factor is high and cost are even higher. Keep it where the average boater can relate to the people on the course. Just my 2 cent's

Don't know what the rules are for new boats....there is no speed limits to the new SV class...but I don't know what would happen if a new SV was built and its 5 mph faster then the rest....

The next question is.....what if a manufacture builds a new SVL that is 2 or 3 mph faster then the older ones....the SVL class today is kinda like the Hymolagation rule of the LLC....no real new tech has come up with a new SVL...so the boats are likely matched up....

In spec racing today....that has to be the biggest question....in a low dollar class like SVL...how do you protect your boats that are older with the new tech always getting better...

The big money teams will always build the newer....but the smaller teams will not be able to buy a new boat every 2 or 3 years....

Straight up and serious Randy, very good points! However, whether there are 10 race teams racing or 100, there are still 10 egoes to deal with;how do we solve that aspect of racing which would allow us to go forward?

Every now and then in this thread the word "Nascar" has come up. Nascar is run as a dictatorship(the France family) when some of the owners wanted to unionize back in the late 50's(Tim Flock etc) Sr banned them for life. I'd say that since 1973 when Winston came on board, they have done pretty good for themselves. If we keep saying we want to be like Nascar, why cant we as racers follow their business model. Its pretty simple. Maybe a start would be to go with Randy's plan classwise, but also let the association dictate to the manufactuers and teams what the parameters will be. Racers input is accepted but, but the association plays god and jury. As Mike and Steve have stated, Mercury is what has ruined some of the premier classes. Now with Mercury backing out of any support to the associations and supposedly all of the teams, now would be the time to start this process. What do I know, just thinkin out loud.

Joey, They have not been here for years and I dont see them coming any time soon. Maybe they should follow our rules. Why do we need 2-8 boats to make our product in the USA work? They are on the other side of the world. Lets start by makeing the classes the same in the USA first.

The 42 Fountain does not meet the current OPA rules for SV. We only allow Bravo drives with 30 or 31 props and 1.3 or 1.50 gears.

you can,t compair NASCAR to boat racing , your right NASCAR runs the templet body templet engine , run every race under the same rules no matter what track and they promotefor all the same, for all, no matter how much money you have. that will NEVER happen in boat racing ?? why EGOES i have a bigger willie than you. and i can buy three more than you. and i wouldn,t drive in one of those. and the biggest reason of all NASCAR would NOT even tollorate drinking ? the first thing EVERY boat racer wants to know at a race? where,s the party? ,we promote drunkiness 2 or 3 nights before we put our drivers and throttlemen in a race.we fill them up booze, don,t you think a sponsor or two has looked at us, and even sat next to some of us ,and said these teams and officials are all alcoholics, they aren,t even going to associate there brand with this sport,it,s been this way for a long time.

OPA requires a breathalyzer at the race day physical. if there is ANY question we have 2 seperate units utilyzing different technology. You blow a .00 or you don't race. zero exceptions. people have been benched before.

Same for OSS. You even have to blow again at the cranes before getting in the boat.

MD, i think you're misunderstanding me. or maybe not...my point is,,, what we keep trying is not working here in the USA.

with my background, I have been behind the scenes at everything from mtn bike races to winston west, the baja 1000 to the Mac yacht race..if you think offshore people are the only ones who drink more than a dehydrated mackeral.....

I know that everyone thinks there are to many orgs. Do you think that each org. has to many races? How many boats will just race the sarasota and the worlds.
