The Great Unification

No..keep it simple limit to bravo based drives, so we all do not have to spend money to re rig our boats. Merc, Innovation. Ilmor, Raylar. limit to 525-550hp 4850lbs min. take it from there

Not stirring or anything, just curious, but are there any other competitive drives that would even be an option to allow?

I know Michele from YACHTS has a boat being built for over there....he lives there in Dubai too.

X-Cat is getting more and more expensive to run, entry fees, insurance fees at every race, memberships, & fuel, the shipping is nearly $20,000.00, Flights are $1,200.00 min. EACH. You have to got to The middle East for 2 weeks at a pop and out yourself up. Rental truck, storage, food SUCKS......The also CANCELLED 2 of there 6 races there last year making it ONLY a four race series. I know the prize money is really good there but after you break it all down for a non UAE team to compete it's not as good as it sounds.

I have the backing to race here in the states, I want to help fix our racing here instead of the middle east.

maybe..im not sure. what are your thoughts on Konrads and Bmax? are they Bravo based?

Ryan...I was just thinking out loud...in OPA you have the 28 ATM open cockpit boat and the32 Activator runnning in Class 3 at 95mph...and I have not seen either one of them get pitched out...I have seen others in F1 get pitched out at 73 mph....and guys like Randy not at 82 mph....I don't think the SVL's are running 90 in 3 to 4 footers...but I'm sure guys in F1 have run in3 to 4's at 75+....in Ft Lauderdale the top 5 F1 boats passed all the SVL's and they started 2 to 3 hundread yards ahead of us....and the only ones that got pitched was the Laveycraft guys due to a broken gimble in a turn....

I'm not even saying they would even be able to complete with the current SVL teams...but if a team already has a boat set up with the SVL rules other then the lid and they wanted to try...maybe it would open the door on a few other boats to come out.....we ran Marks Activator in some big water and Randy in his F1 boat...and his and Marks Activator seemed to run a lot better and in more control then I have seen some of the SVL boats in big water...and now OSS has the PRO-AM Class were SVL's and open cockpit guys are racing together...so whats the differance....

Again..its just a tought....kind of like a F1 Class with a option for a lid and multible engine packages.....with all bravo base drives and weight requiremets

I think that would be a great move to allow competitive, yet comperable drives. A little competition never hurt the sport. In fact, look at all those that thought Factory racing would be the next NASCAR on the water. Remember, Volvo still has a power/drive package that is VERY close to the Merc 525. What's the worst that could happen? or, What's the best that could happen?
Just thinking out loud, but what do I know... I've got brain damage... ;)

Gordo....let me know the next time you in New Port Richey.....will have to grab a drink....

gordo you and bruce both have a great idea, lid no lid team choice , 525/550 motor dyno sealed by a select few engine builders, bravo based drives, 4850 lbs, with all the f 1s and svl,s it would with out a doubt be the biggest class, best racing on the water.

It's nice to see you guys debating this again!!! Maybe some type of unification will fall into place as the debates proceed!!!!

Yeah, still have it. Used F-2 boats aren't exactly a hot commodity! I might consider breaking it out of mothballs one of these days, but I've got three little boys (a six year old and three year old twins), so I've got that to consider. We are going to run in the New York City Poker Run, so that should be fun!

I do applaud your efforts at staying involved Sean. Your insight and perspective are usually right on. Us "old" guys have to stick together!

Tom

Thanks Tom you're right us "old" guys do have to stick together!!!! I think you should break that thing out of the moth balls there's a couple of rough water races that would be fun to run!!! And they aren't decided by the first turn anymore... Simmons had a hell of a race with Bounty Hunter in Ocean City with Bounty Hunter winning by like a half a boat length!!! I will let you know how they make out against Crazy Chicken today!!!! Anyway stay in touch they need a few more boats to come out of the mothballs!!!!

Sean

Everyone talks about XCat and 20 + boats racing. Isn't the American version V lite? Big block noise, good or bad not much has changed in the boats. A 10 year old is still competitve. There safe, really a good show most of time. I doesn't take to much of a bump to get them out of the water and dance and dart. Not much of the ego problem. Used race ready boat $60,000. I really like the one motor idea. I don't really care who makes it, but I don't have problem with other brands as long as the equal. I can think of 12 or so boats that are currently could race and win. 525 or vortec. How many SVLs are still powered by vortecs 2 or 3? Bring out the F1 boats why not. Get OSS to pool there $50,000 prize money to one class, and I could see minds changing maybe. What is there to loose. What OSS and SBI are currently doing really is not working to get boats in one class. Everybody is always hard on Randy but aleast he wants to try new ideas. I don't always agree, but he is trying to grow the class. Want 20 boats in one class heads up. I think V lite is the answer, but there just the little boats, and everyone wants to watch the big cats. My agenda is I just want to race.

The comment on everyone wants to see the big boats is not that true....
in the F1 days...we had more air time then the big boys....its nice to see the big boys...but the F1 class had some great racing....and if someone wants to get into racing....most could afford the 50 to 80k to buy that boat...and very few could afford the 350k to 500k to buy the big boys boats....not to mention the cost of running one....
In racing today if you look at all the classes...its the Class 6,5 and SVL's that have the boat count...and I hope the new SV class is the next in line...

The best thing going for V lite now is that no one yet has created a better hull to obsolete the phantoms and extreams.

only problem with F-1s running, is the open cockpit at 85-90 mph. Just a bit scarey for my blood. someone gets tossed with 15 boats heading his/herway, is simply a tragedy waiting to happen.

Cannot, should not, run open boats with canopied ones.

I would not want to race in an open f1 at 90mph myself. It was a great class, but more or less its done, as well as most boat racing
