Ahh yes the C word.
Competition is a contest between individuals, groups, nations, animals, etc. for territory, a niche, or allocation of resources. It arises whenever two or more parties strive for a goal which cannot be shared. Competition occurs naturally between living organisms which co-exist in the same environment. For example, animals compete over water supplies, food, and mates, etc. Humans compete for water, food, and mates, though when these needs are met deep rivalries often arise over the pursuit of wealth, prestige, and fame. Business is often associated with competition as most companies are in competition with at least one other firm over the same group of customers.
Competition may give incentives for self-improvement. For example, if two watchmakers are competing for business, they will hopefully improve their products and service to increase sales. If one watchmaker is more responsive to the needs of consumers, this watchmaker will flourish. If birds compete for a limited water supply during a drought, the more suited birds will survive to reproduce and improve the population.
Rivals will often refer to their competitors as "the competition". The term can also be used to refer to the contest or tournament itself.
Competition
It has not existed in boat racing for years so now that the merc show is over lets get back to some healthy competition. May the best manufacturer win.

because the rich super stars build boats that don,t fit in any class ,, they go to any promoter (org) PAY them to start a class for them, then they win all the races they come to ,, if they built a boat to run in an a current class do you think they could win??? not a chance in hell,,, put any super boater in cat 750 or 850 class daaa,,,, how about super cat lite,,,, not a chance ,,, sorry but the big money helped drag it down,, if all those guys would agree and build the same boat, now then there would be a trully super class,

I still think you need a minimum of four main classes, maybe 5.
The main reason, nothing will ever happen if the plan entails obsoleting 3/4 of the existing boats.
Maybe over a lng term plan, but not a short term cutoff.
And one other thing to remember, the car of the future is what could be the demise of NASCAR's popularity over time. It was popular because it used to be my Chevy against your Ford. Now it's just another race series where they are different in paint only and several sponsors had dropped their support level before the current economic downturn.
If I was starting a series from scratch, here is what I would do:
I would have 2 premier classes... Super Cat and Super Vee. Engine package to be reasonably affordable. (525's? 750's? 850's?). This would be the show. They would race together. The TV and the promotion would focus on them.
Everyone else would be the support series. For sure, a bracket based series,
such as OPA. In addition, if there was enough boats, SVL and OB Cat could have their own classes, but as support races, not the big show. They would race with the bracket classes.
The problem is how to get there. There has to be some transition period to allow the current teams to change their current equipment to the new regulations. We don't want to push anyone out, we just need to work together towards the solution, whether my suggestion, or someone else's.
From a competition and entertainment standpoint, the more boats in each class, the better. The current situation is ridiculous. ( No offense to any teams). Supercat extreme, supercat lite, supercat 850, supercat 750,
supercat turbine, supercat steam powered. Enough already. Everone always
wants to be like Nascar. How many classes do they run on Sunday?
I'm pretty sure if Bill Gates showed up at Daytona in February with a rocket powered car, they wouldn't let him race it. Why should we do essentially the same thing?
A stable, reasonably affordable, National Series, would attract teams, put on a good show, look good on TV and offer some competitive (10 boats racing into turn 1) racing.
Just my opinion, mind you, as a fan and class 6 bracket racer (what do I know anyway?)
Sean,
Everyone out here is ok......except Rik.....
Hope you liked the ride in Loto. Working on it to make it a little quicker, are you still in to hang on?

I have been involved for 21 years now in offshore racing. Class 1 is still the best, the only problem is trying to run against Countries (Qatar,UAE) as a little guy....Alcone did well though. That can be done effectively with v8's.
That was where supercat came in.
Supercat was a good formula until the drive bann.

But even Class 1 is starting to fall because of the economy and the cost. Cat Outboard seems to be picking up currently overseas.
I wouldn't go that far. Except for Qatar pouting, Class 1 has Maritimo back, a new boat being built for a Spanish team and Victory running 3 boats now.
You can't judge C1 by boat count alone, it's like F1 in that sense. F1 may only had 19 cars this weekend, but it's still by far the number 1 motorsport in the world.
If C1 is the number one boating motorsport in the world, then it's format should be adapted and followed here for a premier class. I just don't see that happening in the short term though.
