The Great Unification

Perhaps you missed this part in Ron's post ?

I stand corrected and I apologize to you Tim. I kinda got bored with reading stuff that I have known since March as far as the races not happening and finally being removed from the bogus schedule that was posted. I didnt read that far down.

You have to give me credit for one thing though, when I am wrong I am the first to stand up and admit it. So here I am in front of the firing squad, fire away..... I deserve it On this regard I am a :dupe:

On a side note, not that I have any say, but my recemendation for the new name would be "OPA". The name OPA has a proven track record of success and I realize it is an organization based in the north, but us southern folk have an old saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

well said trent!!!!!!!!!!

Sean,

This is good, well I guess, but how is it starting to fall into place? OSS had to finally admit something we have known for quite some time that most of the races on their schedule were a sham. Ok they hop in bed with OPA now but yet they still have to be the almighty OSS. Why dont they just throw in the towel and join OPA and it just be called OPA. Smitty has done a hell of a job getting successful race sites and from what I was told, the towns promotor takes care of most everything so all he does is have to show up dot some i's and cross some t's and he races. Kind of a sweet deal he created if that is the truth. I have sat here and watched the reactions and they have varied, both good and bad, obviously the fans are ****ed that followed OSS and had plans to go to NO, OB, and Jupiter. In reality this wasnt done for the fans, it was done out of neccessity. I wish they would tell the whole truth instead of being used car salesmen about it.

My question to you is that OPA has medical, insurance and secure race sites, why do they feel that it needs to be doubled now and still keep the 6 figure saleries that arent needed. Why cant OSS just go away and let their racers race where they want?

Come to think of it, here Smitty volunteers his time or makes little to no money running OPA and the 6 figure guy comes to him with his tail between his legs needing race sites. I think it is quite comical. For Smitty's sake I hope Haggin puts him on payroll so at least he is paid to deal with the headaches that are sure to come.....

Thank you for stating what ALL of us ,other than a few feel after this proclamation of unification .
If OSS had not lost all their sites ( pro series ,not starter class ) They would NOT be knocking on the door of those who re- built northeast racing .

I,m surprised the opa racers gave up half their entity . But they did , so be it .

hope it works for them .i really do .

That is the best post I think I have ever seen. Not the slam on OSS but the whole nail on the head pic. Very funny.:sifone:

cool got my answer, the way the announcement was phrased was that it was going to be OSS/OPA now that you clarified it, it now makes sense. When the merger actualy takes place and you get one set of points/not two, then the math does add up to 3-1=2. Great start, keep up the good work!

Thanks for your response Sean

Anytime my friend!!!!

This is not a slam on the racers, however, what I saw yesterday, in terms of a professional motorsport "show" was pathetic, and worse yet, Sarasota is supposedly the biggest event of the year except for KW?! I actually left after CMS broke down. The only race was in SV and it was a good one, but still, there were only three boats involved. There was nothing redeeming about the entire event from a fan's or marketing person's perspective. And I cannot imagine what a 12 to 20 boat event looks like. Yuck.

Granted, this was my first race since OB in 2003, but I can tell you after 37 pages of posts, the real problem has not been addressed. Take it for what it is worth, blast me if you want, but in my opinion, the sport will not grow from this current base. If the sport is to get off life support, some hard truths need to be recognized. Unless the powers that be, including boat owners and racers, get moving on something drastic, this sport is going to die as soon as JC and Smitty call it a day. Blunt words, but that is me.

Hello Mike, i am not around long enuogh to know ,,so why don't u explain to me and others how it was when u ran the show and why it was that u are not running it anymore ????!!!!!!:bigear::confused:

Scott, did you read thru the 38 pages on this thread? That question makes it appear you to me haven't yet.

Only 38 pages, no big thang!!:sifone:

Welcome back Jim. All of you should start a new thread with minute by minute rehash of the SVL races for those of us who couldn't be there........

DD - What it was like when I "ran the show" is irrelevant as obviously I failed too. I do not run it anymore because I quit.

I know what I said earlier is insulting per se but that was not my intent. I am speaking purely as an experienced, knowledgeable fan, and from my perspective, and many, many, many other veterans of SGP's past who were sitting nearby, yesterday's "show" was horrible - as an actual sport. The highlight to most people, other than the SV race, was a giant boat that made no sound. Like it or not, the sport today is unmarketable in any meaningful way. For the most part you had two parades of different size and shape boats running around with no discernible purpose, and nothing at stake.

Again, I had not been to a race in 6 years, and if that is as good as it gets, I doubt I will attend another one. My point is this: Either a group of people with real money willing to put a substantial amount at risk get together and do something about this current mess, or this sport, which I have been following since 1972, is destined to become a small club of old men - much like what happened to the rest of APBA.

All you have to do is to knock the heels together three times and command the ruby slippers to carry you and Toto wherever you wish to go.

Maybe it's time for a comeback tour Mike you know the mistakes made.....address them and rebuild it and they will come!!!!!!

Probably shouldn't say this, but....

If everyone of you who have been involved with the administrative side of the sport wrote down exactly what you believe the correct, and incorrect, things which have been done are.

Then, they were all sent to a person who could copy them and send the complete, combined, issues to everyone currently in the Administration of the sport for review.

Then everyone wrote out how they perceived the sport should proceed after reading everything and followed the same send to everyone steps.

A management map would probably be generated to follow.

SOmetimes written is better than talking to create positive discussion without negative reactions. :leaving:

tried that. no one listens. this must be ran as a business.

It used to be the big boats were the show. It has changed and now the lower class have the best competition.

When FACTORY CLASS was big you could buy a boat no money down and finance it for 15 years. Many of the big teams would build new boats every season. Times are very different.
