Well it looks as if the Great Unification is starting to fall into place!!!!!!

Sean,

This is good, well I guess, but how is it starting to fall into place? OSS had to finally admit something we have known for quite some time that most of the races on their schedule were a sham. Ok they hop in bed with OPA now but yet they still have to be the almighty OSS. Why dont they just throw in the towel and join OPA and it just be called OPA. Smitty has done a hell of a job getting successful race sites and from what I was told, the towns promotor takes care of most everything so all he does is have to show up dot some i's and cross some t's and he races. Kind of a sweet deal he created if that is the truth. I have sat here and watched the reactions and they have varied, both good and bad, obviously the fans are ****ed that followed OSS and had plans to go to NO, OB, and Jupiter. In reality this wasnt done for the fans, it was done out of neccessity. I wish they would tell the whole truth instead of being used car salesmen about it.

My question to you is that OPA has medical, insurance and secure race sites, why do they feel that it needs to be doubled now and still keep the 6 figure saleries that arent needed. Why cant OSS just go away and let their racers race where they want?

Come to think of it, here Smitty volunteers his time or makes little to no money running OPA and the 6 figure guy comes to him with his tail between his legs needing race sites. I think it is quite comical. For Smitty's sake I hope Haggin puts him on payroll so at least he is paid to deal with the headaches that are sure to come.....

Whether you like it or not , to be successful this whole thing has to be owned and operated by an owner, not a club with volunteers. Someone has to have final say, someone has to have money on the line that is his.

Given what I have read with previous problems and current leadership and taking into consideration everyones age and health...the future of this sport will be in the hands of someone other than any name I have ever read about yet.
And I predict that this will happen very shortly.

Has to be run like a business..has to make someone some sigificant money and the egos and dicks have to be left at the door.

CBS et al wont take any crap and I hope everyone hears that freight train coming and right after I heard of this marriage of convenience the next sound I heard was a toilet flushing.

Whole sport is mismanaged and I feel real sorry for the racers and the fans, they both deserve better.

Sad is the best word to use.

I guess the simple fact that 3 - 1 = 2 organizations for the 2010 Racing season is not a step in the right direction for you Trent. Only if it was the OSS racers teaming up with SBI perhaps?

Maybe there will only be 1 organization come 2010 if JC is willing to work towards that goal...

With any luck, JC could sell out and walk away. I feel the chances would be much better for 1 organization if he does so.

My guess is he was banking on OSS to fail and felt he was going to pick up all of the OSS boats placing more value to his average 12 boat fleet. Go for the big bucks and retire...

Obviously that most likely will not happen now.

People can praise JC all they want for his stamina, but what really has he done for the racing ? Granting anyone that wants a World Championship only made the title worthless... At the very least there should have been competition in a class in order to win such a title.

Hoping for 1 organization and 1 World Championship in the 2010.

That's the best I can hope for...

There is ONE NFL ONE Nascar ONE NBA ONE MBL

There is no room or money in this sport for more than I Offshore Racing organization.

I'll tell you what to scrap...scrap the word UNIFICATION.

Try using START OVER

Too much bad history too many broken promises too many screwed up dates.

When I man stands in front of a city council with 100 boats they will listen especially if they cant play one person off the other.

The racers would be big winners also because there would be some $.

Can you imagine how hard it is now for a racer to get a sponsor???

This is all minor league BS.

I'd wash my mouth out with a revolver if I organized a race with 25 boats showing up.

I will respond shortly when I don't have to do it from a blackberry. I am sorry if I am ruffling feathers but I am sure a lot more will be ruffled before racing returns, if it does, to its glory days!!

Tim,

Maybe you misread my whole statement! The way the announcement read is OSS/OPA at OPA race sites. To me the math adds up to 3-0=3. The question I have is why does OSS even still exist?

It has nothing to do with SBI or JC. I think this would be great if they just dropped it and went and raced with OPA, but just as JC has fought off a lot of bad publicity with cities and vendors(namely Speed Channel) for having the letters "APBA" attached to his company, what about the Toronto's, Puerto Rico's etc that have a bad taste in their mouth from OSS's past dealings. I think if anyone can pull it off it would be Smitty, but why with the success he has created in OPA does he want to deal with the headaches. He has offered the SVL's a class, for that matter anyone who wants to race can come and race OPA, if they come in numbers he would create a class.

Please I request that you read my post again and again until you get off of your highhorse about me thinkin SBI is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My post had nothing to do with SBI, whatsoever. I have said time and time again that all of offshore has fleas, that each team needs to do what is best for them and find the best schedule and/or group that best suits their needs. OSS is the club that is in trouble, not OPA, why cant the racers just move on and race with OPA. Now you have two staffs, two insurances, two everything. Wow in this economy that kinda sounds retarded to me, but again can explain why offshore is in the state that it is in right now. I am pretty sure that if the OSS boats show up as they have in the past, Smitty can handle it.

As everyone knows I haven't taken sides in any of this but an unbiased stance or voice if you will!!

With that being said I will give you the politically incorrect unsugar coated opinion I have formed!!!! It's all a bunch of hor$e$hit and sadly "Offshore" racing is the worst I have seen it in 30 years 31 actually and is in dire straits!! When and if it ever recovers remains to be seen!!! Maybe the best thing to do is let it all die and as Catastrophe states phucking START OVER!!!

OK here's the deal by the numbers

OPA leads with the biggest boat count at events which tells me Smitty's program is working....God Bless Him!!!!

OSS Has 1 race left and will merge with OPA under a new or OPA banner thats one step towards Unification how it works out structurally or logistically talk to Smitty or Polli...

SBI has the master at the helm JC he has been doing it longer than anyone in the game....That's the last hurdle to jump and I don't believe it will be that hard to do given the current state of racing and orgs!!! Augie said it best "CockRoaches, Twinkies, and JC will be the only things left standing at the end of days!!! And you need to throw Smitty into that current category!!!!

If it happens you need a dictator to lead and let him lead!!!!

I have said my last words on this subject it's up to you guys now to pick up the pieces and move forward!!!!!!

merge with OPA under a new or OPA banner

cool got my answer, the way the announcement was phrased was that it was going to be OSS/OPA now that you clarified it, it now makes sense. When the merger actualy takes place and you get one set of points/not two, then the math does add up to 3-1=2. Great start, keep up the good work!

Thanks for your response Sean

Perhaps you missed this part in Ron's post ?

Once this season is over, it is our intention (with the approval of our teams) to drop the OSS and OPA names and come out with a new unified race series name for 2010 and beyond. For next year, we'll take the best of our collective race sites and make a single fantastic series with more than 50 boats at every event.
It is my guess that perhaps OSS has a contract they might have to live up to with Ron. That is just a guess. I am sure no organization wants to do a full reorganization in the middle of a racing season.:ack2:
I do not know all of the inner workings, but I would bet that the salary employees will be off the payroll at some point. They might even be off now ? Who knows? The entry fees for OSS will cover the costs of OSS at the joint races. It changes nothing for OPA but a larger boat count.

I see it as the people involved here have finally realized if something does not come together, then it could be the end of the sport. They all made the decision based on saving the sport and not personal agendas.

Nothing can be better than promising a town 40 boats and then show up with 60 +... :)

Racers always had their own decision on where they wanted to run. Oh wait! I take that back. I understand someone from the south was going to try that and was threatened to be fined....:ack2: Hint: Ocean City Race 2009.

Perhaps it will one day all fall back in under the name APBA Offshore!

Time will tell.....

Thanks Sean,
