The Day SVL Died

Mike,

I have to disagree with you.

IMHO,

Randy is a true racer in every respect. With all due respect to George,Mark and Steve in anything above two feet Randy will trounce them all. I was not there so I do not know what was discussed by the teams that were there but I have raced with him long enough to know that he is fair and a great racer!!!!

Just my .02

Wil

We can agree to disagree Wil. No problem. But Randy obviously has you conned too. No sweat. In the meantime, he is destroying the value of your boat.

I did not see that part of Wil's post but you are right. The way Miklos and Gary are running now, they would lap Randy in anything over 3ft, assuming of course, that the duct tape and gum held up and Randy could actually run more than a couple of laps.

BTW - I want to know the names of the three "corporate sponsors" that we ran off with the postings here. I mean, seriously, most of the time there are only 5 or 6 people on this forum, except when there is a good controversial thread raging, and then there might be 20. I would also like to know the name of the pathological liar who made that claim.

The only time I am aware of anything like that happening was 2002 in the Bahamas, but it was only for half the laps, then the teams took off and raced for the remaining laps. NEVER FOR A "WORLD" CHAMPIONSHIP. Be real, Randy conned everyone there into doing it so he could enhance his chances of winning a title. But he was terrified of racing Miklos, George and Dunbar, knowing he had no chance of finishing better than 4th. So he stirred everyone else (well, the other three) to trash George. Miklos got lucky and called ahead, knowing that Randy was likely to pull such a stunt, and saved himself a trip; hence the new term for the remaining boats - JVL.

your wrong Mike....Randy welcomes competition and never complains about racing faster teams. I can tell you he's not afraid of racing anyone. He would be just as happy coming in 4th, with good racing, as he would coming in first. Spin it however you want. But I really wish you would just let this go so the class can move forward in some positive direction. Your not helping, even though you think you are.

We will get this sorted out. One way or another.

Nope Bruce. Randy is THE cancer of this class and you have slammed him behind his back in the past too when it suited you. He has effectively been running the thing for years and look at it. Obviously, he has conned you into bouncing like a tennis ball back into his camp - for now, but like always, that will change soon enough.

The crookedness of this sport has been running people off for years. If you want to be led over a cliff, rather than listen to me, fine. I could not care less. But with all due respect, I am giving voice to several teams who have raced more this year than you and Randy combined and they know the truth and are really PO'd. So no, I will not let it go until the BS and con jobs stop.

Mike, Im sure you have friends you do not always agree with. Randy is a friend that I do not always agree with. Im sure, I blast him everytime I dont agree with him. But never behind his back. Yes he off base sometimes, but he has no one conned. I think you are still bitter because he is / was pro OSS and you hate anyone who left you for OSS. Whether I continue to race or not, he'll always be a friend. How can you call someone a cancer, when all he does is help everyone out when they need something?

Randy is not the issue here and I dont really care to get into how this whole dibacle began or how it got to where it is now. It will not get settled here either. I can tell you this....It takes more that one to tango, and there are several people that made this worse than it really needed to be. The BS will stop. But it needs to end here first.

That's funny! Why wait for season to start?

LETS DO IT NOW!

Randy pick the place open ocean 60 miles or more anywhere from KW to Long Island I can leave in 4 hours. Bring some cash (or your boat title) let's make it interesting not some contrived BS as usual.
Steve

Scripted may have not been the best word to use... It is no fun to watch the typical parade. So they chose to run in a pack first race and settle it the second.. I believe it was a good call on their part.

If there is parity in all the SVL's there should be no parade...

I'm sure I will get flamed for this but what the hell.... From a fans point of view: Evrybody had a invite to show up, get paid, and race the worlds with OPA. Everybody thinks the Fountain is going to be there and choose NOT to come race. They all find out Friday that the Fountain did not show up and NOW everybody wants to race on Sunday for the OPA World Championship????? And on top of that a racer that choose NOT to show up wants a racer that did show up to meet somewhere and battle it out?????
This is just my opinion but it is NOT the Fountain the is destroying the class.......let the flames begain.....

What does this have to do with last weeks race?

But if you do think it does have something to do with last weeks race.

Another way of looking at this is:

These racer's claim to be "professionals" not sure how that is possible with a hobby for middle aged men in less than spectacular physical condition that drink heavily but it's their dream so let's roll with it.

The race promoter who is paying them to race and charged them no fee's to attend his race. learns that the professionals decided not to race and instead they put on a show to save there fragile ancient equipment (some of which was not even legal to compete or ever paid for).

The promoter (being a promoter and all that promotional stuff) decides he has beeen handed an opportunity to improve the show and the competition for these "professional" racers. This was met with less than professional enthusiasm. In fact Randy would not even get on the phone or return calls.

So now that we have some time and Randy is claiming to be "king of the ten/fifteen year old single engine boats in seas 3 feet and over why not race?

Key West would be a good place for Randy to race us and the Fountain will be there, will he?

NEWS FLASH FOR OFFSHORE RACERS!:

If you cannot afford the little things like entry fee's you are too broke to race offshore.

Steve,
I can see things from your side as well with exception to:

"So now that we have some time and Randy is claiming to be "king of the ten/fifteen year old single engine boats in seas 3 feet and over why not race?"

I'm not sure where this come from as I have not seen Randy on here, since winning Orange Beach, claiming to be anything......

I think your right on Key West. Ramp it up, get everybody excited and let's see a great battle in Key West.....It would be awesome to see it settled on the course and not the keyboard....

BTW Steve,
as a fan of the Extremes, I for one thought your boat looked great with the bussle, or as Mike A puts it, a swim platform.....

I dont get it.....How did this all of the sudden become a lets bash Randy thread? This has everything to do with sportsmanship or lack thereof.

Steve, Randys typical for not returning calls or answering his phone. He has no knowledge of how to use his phone, voice mail, and either, leaves his phone somewhere or forgets his charger. That is certainly one of my pet peavs.

He is extremely passionate about racing. Moreso than most of us. And to pin this on him is just plain unfair.

He's not claiming to be king of the sea. He won a race on Sunday, plain and simple.

your quote:

this only applies to a select few. Not all. Most are just middle age and out of shape. I'll admit, Randy is in less than great physical condition, and he does love his beer. But he is still a passionate racer and no one can deny that.

The topic here is the survival of the only remaining viable class in offshore. We should be trying to work it out (offline) privately. There is no positive input whatsoever, from anyone here. It all starts with respect of one another and If we cannot have an open mind, it will never work and as Mike A so eloquently said, our Boats will be worth nothing. So lets all go poker running.

Randy is just one of many guys on Mikes hit list and Steve and Mike are best buds.

Mike is determined to pound his free advice and opinions down everyone's throat. His agenda is to derail anything that shows any promise of success and of course protect his buddies interests.

Mike is the cancer not Randy or anyone else. Most people who know better ignore him and stay out of his line of fire. Most people don't have the time to waste engaging him in discussion.

We { those who disagree with him } are damned if we do damned if we don't.. It is a no win situation trying to reason with him.. He is always right, he knows more than anyone, and he has the time to beat down anyone that speaks out..

:hurray::hurray: He stated he is going to go car racing with his buddy.. I wonder if the car guys will appreciate his free advice and wisdom as much as some here do. :puke:

Bruce,

Great post. I am perfectly willing to help, offline. I obviously have a lot of experience building classes from scratch. We used a formula that promotes parity, multiple race winners, close, exciting competition, and the longest possible racing life of equipment. The latter element is important because it permits old equipment to stay competitive and in turn maintain their value longer. Obviously, the economy is much different today but I believe the model will still work.

I am willing to work with everyone. Let me know.

The genuis speaks! And again, leaves no doubt that he, well, he is not really a genuis. Jimmy, like it or not, the sport is on death's door. And that was not my doing. I have not been involved since 2003. When I left, there were three times the number of boats, more and better television, corporate sponsors, etc., etc.

At the beginning of this year I warned everyone what would happen if the Fountain was allowed to race unimpeded. You disagreed with me, then agreed with me, and now you have pounced on me again. Well, here we are and SVL was left with 4 boats in OB and probably 1 to none in KW.

Given the fact that you have mooched every single free ride you have ever had in this sport, one would think that you would be smart enough to encourage those who have actually built classes, and who want to help out, to help out, so that there could be more potential marks for you to target for another free ride.

As for my buddy, Steve, if it were not for him there would be NO SVL.

So, yeah, sorry to smack you again, but neither Steve nor I is the cancer here.

Finally, I have no idea what your agenda is, if any. But mine is to help the last two legitimate organizations standing, and in turn, help those with investments in older equipment to save money, race more, have fun, and maintain the value of their boats.

OK. Time for you to shut back up again. Go have a drink. That's something you are apparently very good at, right?
