Steve, i really like the trip setup on the vid that steve #2 has on his post and might you introduce steve 2 ? Steve , just curious has to the laminate schedule on the Cat from the skin coat to S or E glass , carbon ,and Kevlar along with the thickness of core , vacume bagged or infusion , and what type of gas tanks were used ( aluminum ) or ....... and was there ever a boat built with side by side F16 canopies . Steve , this ( your ) thread compliments you and many years of hard work , great stuff & keep it coming my friend .

i always liked that style of strake where they are linear front to back and dont follow the hardchine. Is there a name for that? Its similar to the Ocke boats and Cougars. What is the intended effect of those over tradirtional ones? Thanks

Finding more pictures: This is the transom of the jig ready to come out ,Note the 4" piece of "I" beam keeping the Plywood dead straight. There is a pile of debris off to the right from stripping out the Jig.

Originally they wrapped them around in an effort to knock the water and spray down,The mentality was to get it quickly before it came over the boat ,but as the the Stem rake increased it was a mute point.

Bertram ran them with the Keel and water flow, The mentality is to always drive it straight when it reenters the water.

I did a 45 Footer for fat Lenard (Don Smith has it now) and my friend Anglo was involved in that straight Strakes as well ,we Both were from the Haggerty school so to say.

Artie sorry That is Steve Wilson a real Smart guy and a close friend does a lot of concept drawings also like on my Site and has been a huge help to me though the years.I would never have sold the first cat without his help

I will do a Thread on those Boats and get into some detail There was infusion and Wet Bagging involved ,The core was 1" Airex with build ups in some areas. there was a "B" model or two with two canopies, I preferred a Single in those days with tandem seats which I got from a Chick In California she did Bahia race trucks.

Front before I added another layer of 1"Core to the bottom,Those vents were built up so when the top piece of core was bagged down they were just gentle humps.

I started the holding fixture by running 2"X12"s under the Hull and raising it slightly with 4 chain falls ,The kid went in with a screw gun and dropped everything free.

I was under the impression it helps tracking when turning the boat and the traditional way wants to push the nose away from the turn or something like that? I was lead to believe that's why Fountain changed the strakes on later designs?

Steve, If Pantera is using a different bottom, what happened to the T-4 mold?

T-4 That is coming up.

The early "Tin" CUV's had no Strakes at all and ran fine, I worked with a old racer Davy Wilson he had a lot of stories and Knew Mr Shead. Then Sammy James Director of Bertram racing he had hours of conversation on it they even drilled a zillion holes in the bottom and did frame by frame 16MM film analyzation, I was told the deck was in a wind tunnel as well.

anyway then while doing a 55 footer for Mr Codomo I got to work with "The Cloud" who ran the Loft at Chris Craft when they were in Pompano back in the day and the the Drawings for Cary among other things truly brilliant guy and a disciple of boat design again the Lift strip/Spray rail combo which is the way he laid out that boat and what I did on that project.
