Steve, that video is impressive. Hope I didn't miss the info if you already posted it in the thread, but I'm curious about how many of those things were built. It looks so competitive that I'm surprised there aren't a bunch of them running around.

Great thread, thanks for taking the time.

Looking forward to the story.

It's not always about you idiot repubs. :sifone::smash:

I'm here for the boats, just like you. :cheers2:

So if SP did the FEA on this what would they build the transom out of and would it be flat?
Cheers

OK It is a matter of the numbers (Just for conversation here, not reality )say the flat transom has a value determined to be 1000 and a curved panel is 1250.

and the maximum imposed load was found to be 250. so one is 4 times and one is 5.

I use everything SP/Gurlit sells and they offer a Nice high density material suitable for transom use as do a lot of suppliers like the Coosa blue water 26

As for analysis , Usually I always do my own plate work and have the numbers checked, you then back that up with coupons made in the your "actual work area" that are sent into the Lab or nowadays a panel and use the Hydromat it even has a ASTM number attached. Understand when I started all I had in those days was a Radio shack calculator and a slide rule, my printer was a #2 Pencil and a legal tablet the electric eraser on my drafting table was a God send.

If I had the Programs that are around today and the FEA/FEM ability could have shaved a lot of weight out of that first cat ,Understand back then I was in The Nowhere/Cant be done land and making the rules as I went so to speak with that boat.

I have done Carbon modification work overseen By High Modulus in New Zealand in the past.

Many thanks

I have to admit I spend a bit of time on offshore race yachts these days and each time I see a new one I just think if this tech could be put into real boat (power) wow
Clearly guys spend mega bucks on them and they are one offs but the stuff you can do with pre preg / autoclave is impressive.
Keep up the great work

Cheers

Re 251,,I would insist on it if there were time constraints Reason: everything has to have a flat mounting area ,now given time provisions could be made like Pads built for the drives and tabs ,funny you said that Wilson had a way cool drawing we were playing around with it had a lot of shape to it and he had a knockout idea for the exhaust as well.

Many thanks

We do live in an amazing world BTW You have a lot of builders there like Bashford ,Sydney and so on then the Southern cross with the big time leasing must have some real nice water around there! Regards

lets see some fabric on this thing! :bump:

Yes I better start posting something on this thread. Powerabout is a Offshore Yacht racer from down under, they have some leading edge technology in those Boats hence was the reason for his inquiry on the transom, The smartest Guys I have ever worked with are from that crowd.

That video is not as impressive as the boat itself....if you consider the weight and the speed, in rough water, most people can't even comprehend - SERIOUSLY, watch the rough water running, the attitude and the performance...unbeatable!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGh-PTN_Pek

think about the triple engine boat in this video, its about 1/3rd the weight of anything else, LESS POWER, and its running faster IN ROUGH WATER, than anything else...just think of a Cheetah Cat designed to run against a Mystic...let the mind wander!

Here we are at another Shop in Delray the Congress facility was closed and the project was stopped and moved here.we were called back and it was restarted, in this photo My Brother is working on the fairing, I am getting ready to pull it off the fixture.

A lot of pictures are missing. Here the T-4 is off the jig and in a Quick holding Fixture I built that allows me to rotate it and work on any side.

The Important thing now at this stage is to be able to rotate it quickly for inside lamination and fairing work while holding it true.
