Small Business in America......

Details summarized from the factcheck site:

-small businesses are those with 500 employees or less. Tax increases are proposed on those making $280,000 or more.
OK, now if a guy owns a company with upwards of 500 employees his company better be making more than $280K a year......Since he's an individual, his taxes are going up. That $280K+ IS where he gets money to expand his business, advertise, and hire new people. Reduce the amount he keeps by increasing his taxes (which are 38% FED alone) and he's got less money for those other things!!!!

-states that those that splurge on the best health care coverage WILL pay a tax for having such great coverage!

-$4 billion in taxes by taxing medical "devices" that would be paid by the manufacturers......
OK, where do you think they are going to get that $4 billion from??? the person that buys those products???

-cut and pasted from your DEM website: ""Hundreds of billions in new taxes"
This part is true enough, with the usual caution that the total is spread over 10 years."
OK, great....I only have to deal with $50-60 billion in new taxes each year.

-another cut and paste "
"A tax for not having health insurance"
This is also true."
OK, no comment

I agree each side spins things but these are "facts" from a site trying to dis-spell an ad from the RNC.

Regardless of the accuracy of the thread subject the point is that everything our gov't does to "level" the playing field will have it consequences. The post above summarizes the significance of small business in the country. Unfortunately our beloved leaders don't have a fvucking clue as to what it really takes nor what really goes on in small business.

I SAY VOTE'EM ALL OUT...WE NEED NEW BLOOD IN DC.

The latest promise of change is proven to be nothing more than a blatant lie.

How do regulations affect small firms?
Very small firms with fewer than 20 employees annually
spend 45 percent more per employee than larger firms to
comply with federal regulations. These very small firms
spend four and a half times as much per employee to comply
with environmental regulations and 67 percent more per em-
ployee
on tax compliance than their larger counterparts.

unfortunately many of the regulations we are subjected to are the result of other small businesses exploiting their employees, I don't like them but I can see where they are coming from.

It is a bad, but in some ways improving situation, at least in Texas. Many of the required submissions can now be made online and probably 50% of those sites have historical data that only requires a few minutes of editing in order to file. I am not saying I like the situation, but I will say that we spend 1/3 the time submitting State and government required data compared to all paper filing.

One of the most time consuming aspects of employee management is dealing with child support and especially court mandated medical coverage for dependants.

I am concerned what the new healthcare regulations may require of small business, if only from a paper work view.

This tax situation applies to "S Corps" filing on a cash basis.

I was advised to become a C corp as soon as I consistently started to make a profit more than twenty years ago. This allows me to keep investing in the business.

I doubt there are many S Corps with over a hundred employees unless they are some kind of pyramid type setup.

I own a "small business" with 130 employees. The estimates on that site for a company my size is an average of $7,500 PER EMPLOYEE to comply with enviromental issue (multiply that times 130 people!!!). I have a person that spends aprox 1/2 his time dealing with all the enviromental regulations of a printing plant. I also have 3 people dealing with accounting issues. One of them is full time dealing with child support and other issues you speak of. That is 2 more salaries I pay that don't produce a thing that goes out the back door of our plant.....more overhead!!!

I can only imagine the BS you have to deal with from an environmental point of view. You are one of the victims of the paper mill company that buried all it's toxic waste 10 miles from here 50 years ago. It has now been certified as a Superfund site that must be cleaned up as the poisons are leaching into the Houston Ship channel. You know who is going to pay billions for the clean-up.

A LOT of things are more important than both of those things to me but to be realistic; money makes the world go around. The easier I can make it, the easier and therefore more enjoyable my life will be. If I'm hungry and can't afford to eat I'm not a very happy guy.

I must not be realistic. I won't sell out what I believe to drive a newer boat, and not working for or with idiots is one thing I wholeheartedly believe in. Your personal mileage may vary.

You said it, not me.

I certainly done feel like a sell out for making sure I don't have to sell my stuff to eat next week. One job ensures I can survive, one job ensures I can buy new boats or whatever it is that makes me happy. I don't like getting up at 5AM every day but if that is what it takes to ensure I eat every day then that's what I'll do. If I have to be around idiots for that to happen, it just makes the day go by that much faster watching them do what idiots do. Try it some time- they are hilarious!

Killing small businesses is killing America, plain and simple.

You're not selling out. If I quit my job every time I came across an idiot I might as well stay unemployed. At the end of the day I know that I was able to do my job to its fullest potential and was hopefully able to learn something new in the process, something that happens to me on a regular basis. The problem comes when those idiots interfere with what you are doing and your performance, which doesn’t seem to be the case in your situation.

Have you ever heard the saying, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”? It seems the administration is taxing small business’ to fund its programs which just “give” the fish to the people. Am I crazy or wouldn’t it make more sense to stimulate small business (tax breaks) that will in turn create more jobs? What am I missing here? :cuss:

doesn't MM work for verizon who has 10's of thousands of employees....bound to be a number of idiots working for a large company that has to watch it's EOE numbers.

Ir remember a number of years ago I had 2 women working for us that kept claiming the other one was an idiot......I simply agreed with both of them (neither work here any longer)

Whatever blows your skirt up. It takes more than wealth to get my attention. I would live in a box under an overpass first.

Totally agree. I will do whatever I have to do to make sure I can keep the lifestyle I am customed too..

Wealth makes the world go round..Lets take away your boat, your nice truck/car, your nice home, and the ability to have fun on the weekend and see how happy you are..I bet you will do whatever you have to do to get that "lifestyle" back..Its plain and simple, you are much happier when the bank account is overflowing...

Over 275,000! We have more than our fair share of idiots and it's not my fault I'm so smart.. LOL! Working for a big company has it's pluses and minuses. Weighing the difference, I'd do exactly what I have done all over again.

You would be wrong in that asumption. I won't whore my principles out for any lifestyle. Period.

Well lets just say I've never lived in a trailer. Like Jimmy Buffett said, they looked a lot better as beer cans.

If you ain't the lead dog, the view never changes.

I won't put my nose up somebody's ass to live in a trailer and drive a fishboat. Hell, I've had eight boats at one time, with five of them being performance boats. I didn't do that by having my nose up someone elses azz. I have a lot more faith in my ability to make a living.

Please dont take up dog training.
