Small Business in America......

I couldn't work with idiots either, unless I was the boss idiot.

Working with and/or for idiots has made me a lot more money than if they were smart. Every dumb idea that comes down the line I see dollar signs.

I do too. After 26 straight years of making a profit, I lost 60k in 2007, about the same in 2008, and I haven't bothered to figure out how much this year. I ran out of things I could sell.

I found the simplier life (for me) is a mix of punching someone elses clock as well as my own. I have my day job that I work for someone to get a steady paycheck, health care, pension, retirement, 401K, etc and then my company where I can make the money to buy boats and toys with. None of the stress of owning my own company and all the things listed from other posters in this thread- only looking to get worse as long as Pelosi and Obama keep bending over the small business owner. Making less and less cents and sense to be the boss man these days; which sucks because that means bye bye America as we know it. I'll never had a Skater at the rate I'm going but I won't ever have to sell my Concept and will be able to get a new one every couple of years without worry as well.

I feel for those of you that have to keep cutting employees. I would think you cut the dead weight many moons ago so now you are really cutting "performers". As the bossman you have to do what is best for the company and your family as well. It sucks just as much being on one side of that conversation as it does the other.

Who said I was born again? I already admitted I can be as profane as anyone. Who are you to pass judgement on my mean streak? Yeah, I have one.

+1 and it seems to be on 100% ..comes guess with the age and health issues...
Oh well time to go to the gym and meet some nice ass...
See Ya...

I am self employed in a very small business. Things were holding until about May and the last two months have been real poor.

I haven't cut myself a paycheck since last May. It is getting to the point I am asking myself how much longer do I want to carry employees waiting for things to turn around.

Personally, I hold the media and their 24/7 doom and gloom responsible for much of our current troubles. :(

.

Our ills have been two staged as well. Things sure seem to be pointing towards that "double-dip" many have been speaking of.

On the positive side I think those that can survive this will have an abundance of opportunities going forward.

I don't think posting every doom and gloom thing you can find on the internet does anyone any good. Who do you know who's mind has been changed by what they read on the net?

I really didn't see this post as requiring a decision; rather it appeared to me to be a law of physics. "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". In this case reacting to the actions of our beloved lawmakers.

And the total would be a lot more than we do overhere, 22 sales and 29 of the profit on years end.
My wage is 18 as we speak but could go up to 70 if I was earning millions.

So what are they overthere..lets compare ?
.
There are so many it's hard to calculate the exact anymore. Federal alone is 38%, the state, city, social security have there taxes too but smaller percentages. On top of sales tax (5.5%) we have personal property taxes.....taxes on things you bought years ago but still pay about 3-4% annually just for owning the stuff. By the time it's finished over 50% goes somewhere other than the business.....When the company is losing money only the federal, state, and city taxes are reduced...plenty of other taxes are still owed.

That is Alarming and I see your point.

So while in Spring 1994 I looked into moving over and running a business in Florida I was glad I didn´t.
Your taxes are killing every business and what are you getting for the money back???
As I´ve seen it not much so for me to say that U.S.A ain´t that great no more take that as a hint and why the people abroad don´t think that highly of U.S.A anymore, It has nothing to do with jelousy or hate it has to do with the fact there´s nothing to offer anymore, Disney doesn´t cut it anymore.
The Auto-Industry is a living example if Fiat-group is the worlds biggest producer and Europe in general and has been for ages.
Come ON U.S.A Rise up stand on your feet and do Quality Products like you once did and me as a kid looked up to and still do when I find a Bridgeport or a Milacron somewhere.
Look where to save money on running the company, make it a lean machine and be proud doing it plus be (politically) aware, all you need to succeed.

This is the part the average Republican is screaming about. This was the land of opportunity, not the land of hand-outs.

BTW Mikey:
Your proud of your countries heritage and know it's history whereas we do not. Don't argue with people who were taught from the history books of what happened in THEIR country. Keep in mind that we now have the advantage of knowing WHAT happened and WHEN. At the time these events unfolded no-one realized how bad they would get.....Hindsight is a great tool if we could access it ahead of time!!!

Folks, please!

A few remarks:
-Refrain from threads if they do not interest you; no need to insult an individual for their thread; no need to get involved if you do not intend to discuss the subject matter.
-Insults and threats will not be tolerated. Do not badger one another. Debate civilly and stick to the topic.

I'm happy you feel that way. Some things are just more important to me than money, or what year boat I'm driving.

Whatever. I'm not going to banter words with you again. You know my stance, and your welcome to find out if I'm lying.

Just how old are you again? What was it like at the manger?

You are correct in my opinion.

That's what the greasy Euro trash wants, a handout from our great country, or they think we are of no use to them. If it wasn't for the US, they'd be speaking Nazi, or Russian in Finland.

I'm happy you feel that way. Some things are just more important to me than money, or what year boat I'm driving.

A LOT of things are more important than both of those things to me but to be realistic; money makes the world go around. The easier I can make it, the easier and therefore more enjoyable my life will be. If I'm hungry and can't afford to eat I'm not a very happy guy.

As Far as I can tell the Carrington company in the first post doesn't exist and many of the facts are actually fiction.

I was able to verify that Obama is President.
Only half of employees work for small business not 99%. The list goes on.

The person that wrote that garbage obviously has never ran a business and knows very little about taxes.

here are some facts on the taxes http://www.factcheck.org/2009/09/rnc-tax-attack-goes-too-far/

here are some facts on small business http://www.sba.gov/advo/stats/sbfaq.pdf

I totally agree that small business is getting overburdened with regulations, but lets deal with facts and not hysterical propaganda

There are some interesting facts here....cut and pasted sections from the SBA web site linked above:

How important are small businesses to
the U.S. economy?
Small firms:
• Represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms.
• Employ just over half of all private sector employees.
• Pay 44 percent of total U.S. private payroll.
• Have generated 64 percent of net new jobs over the past
15 years.
Create more than half of the nonfarm private gross domes-
tic product
(GDP).
• Hire 40 percent of high tech workers (such as scientists,
engineers, and computer programmers).
• Are 52 percent home-based and 2 percent franchises.
• Made up 97.3 percent of all identified exporters and pro-
duced 30.2 percent of the known export value in FY 2007.
• Produce 13 times more patents per employee than large
patenting firms; these patents are twice as likely as large
firm patents to be among the one percent most cited. What is small firms’ share of employment?

How do regulations affect small firms?
Very small firms with fewer than 20 employees annually
spend 45 percent more per employee than larger firms to
comply with federal regulations. These very small firms
spend four and a half times as much per employee to comply
with environmental regulations and 67 percent more per em-
ployee
on tax compliance than their larger counterparts.
