WMO 'Rock the Coast' Fun Run

Date: Saturday, July 23, 2016
Time: 11:30am-5:00pm
Where: Grand Haven to Holland with lunch at Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant

In what will be the biggest fun run of the year, WMO members and Long Distance Participants* will gather near the Grand Haven Municipal Marina, departing south for Holland at 11:30am. Arriving at Boatwerks at 12:30pm, lunch will be served on the beautiful outside patio. Lunch will conclude at 2pm, and boats will head to Pigeon Lake at Port Sheldon for a raft up until 5:00pm.

A helicopter will be present to enable Pete Boden of Shoot 2 Thrill Pix to get great, high-speed shots of your boat on the water!

Dozens of offshore boats have slips at the Grand Haven Municipal Marina from Friday to Saturday that weekend, so stop by the docks to hang out!

West Michigan Offshore welcomes the participation of all boats, regardless of size, make, or top speed.

Rock the Coast Run Itinerary
A play-by-play is below, and maps are at the bottom

Boats arrive in the Grand Haven channel near the Municipal Marina and gather in their assigned speed groupings. Highly-organized stagger instructions forthcoming.
10:15am to 11:30am
--The red, yellow, and green groups depart successively and head south along the Lake Michigan shoreline
--Checkpoint at Pigeon Lake and continue south
--Pass the Holland channel and proceed to the Saugatuck pierhead, staying approximately one mile from shore.
--Head north to Holland closer to shore and enter the channel
--Proceed down the channel, through Lake Macatawa, and to Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant

11:30am to 1:00pm
Lunch at Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant

1:00pm
--Depart from Boatwerks, heading back to Lake Michigan

1:45pm to 4:30pm
Raft-up party at Pigeon Lake

Since WMO is open to boats of all sizes and speeds, an alternate route has been created for those that don't want to run the full course.

Ten Reasons to do the 'Rock the Coast' Run

In case you were on the fence about participating in Saturday's 'Rock the Coast' Fun Run, below are ten reasons you should register:

1) TWO drones will be catching the high-speed action of your boat on the water. One is WMO's very own (making its event debut).

2) We've rented a helicopter to fly along, getting close-up shots of boats pounding waves.

3) Pete Boden (Shoot 2 Thrill Pix) is the #1 offshore photographer in the country, and he'll be riding in the chopper to get the perfect shot.

4) We have approximately FIFTY boats already registered. This will be WMO's largest fun run ever.

5) Of the boats registered so far, cruising speeds range from 40 to 120mph, sizes from 20 feet to over 50 feet in length, and consist of Active Thunders, Checkmates, Cigarettes, Donzis, Formulas, Fountains, Hustlers, Outerlimits, Panteras, Powerplays, Powerquests, Sabers, Scarabs, Skaters, Sonics, Sunsation, and Velocitys. There's no boat too small or too slow!

6) Members indicated that this itinerary (Grand Haven to Holland) was by far their favorite on the survey last fall.

7) The weather forecast is looking perfect. Partly cloudy and 93 degrees.

8) It's only $20. Where can you do a run of this caliber and size for that price?

9) Boatwerks' beautiful deck will be ours for lunch, which is truly one of the best on-the-water scenes in the area.

10) The run has been expanded from its original route, but also offers an alternate route for those that don't want to run the full distance.

If these 10 reasons aren't enough for you to participate, you should probably sell your boat and buy a pontoon!

The deadline is Wednesday, so REGISTER NOW!

Glass like water conditions offer unique opportunities with reflections for those paying attention to where picture takers may be hanging out.....

Of course there is no way to put up a pic thread of an event without having a quality shot run through Bobcat's patented "I-Blur" program!!
And this one is very appropriate with Boden in the shot.......
