Project Chris Craft Scorpion 390

Donskihp , just a quick mention when doing infusion the resin has a different consistency or charactertic opposed to being like syrup meaning that infusion resin is much thinner or watery .

Tommy , looking good , and your lay-up is just fine along with the sequence . Talked with Rolland last week at Plasco about ordering some more resin, and just curious are you using there infusion resin .

Thanks Artie for your support! Yes, I am using Rolland's Infusion Resin. He has been very helpful with me with this whole process. Great guy, Great Company!

So , with that in mind i guess you are using there PCR-3212 Clear Laminating Resin with there PCH -9234 - Hardner , which means .....no heat ... room temp ....Laminating System .

Artie, I am using PCR 3121 Infusion Resin with PCH 9386-99 Hardener. The -99 Hardener has an extended pot life of 1 hour unheated and about 15 minutes if heated to 130. I heated mine to about 80 degrees and had all kinds of time.

I think I have been using the 3212 on all of my hand layups.

Tommy

Tommy , some times .................it can be somewhat confusing ( numbers ) considering i often use both resins 3121 / 3212 mixing the two resins to get the consistency i want for a hand lay -up along with using / PCH 9234 ( hardner ) which in my opinion offers the longest pot life .

I tell ya what...
my recent repair on my jet ski's nose has been a lesson
the resin is never quite what I hope.
When I started and it was in the 30s, it was too thick
Now when I have a few divots to fill I wish it was thicker and it just runs off and puddle on the bond rails...
I have LOTS to learn

Did you get the last stringer in this weekend?

No Paul, I did not. I had to work this weekend. I am airlining back home today to start working on my first customer launch of the season, a 75' Sunseeker, which launches next week! I will probably be working on the Scorpion after work this week. With any luck, we will at least get the last stringer cutout, fitted and bedded this week. I probably won't glass it in until next week, as I have to airline back to Florida to bring my passengers and plane back home on Sunday.

RSCHAP 1 , What resin are you using and did you know that you can always add a little Cabosil to get the right consistency ( thicken ) that you desire if the resin is to watery .

I used/am using West Marine 105 resin, 205 hardener. I bought 6 little pre-packaged "envelopes".
Cabosil is not anything I am familiar with or know about.
I just keep layering on resin and sanding off the excess that runs or sags.
When it was cooler I used some vinyl tape to help dam up the flow and slow down the sags.
I am just about done now.
I may have one more coat to do then finish sanding. Seems like it is far stronger than my earlier repair job. Hopefully that stays true.

I take it Cabosil is something that can be added to thicken the resin and help keep it in place, huh?
I kept thinking that if I had a mold and could flip everything upside down, then the resin would be perfect:)
THANKS

RSCHAP,

West Systems calls Cabosil "Colloidal Silica". Cabosil is a trade name for the same thing. They sell it with all the West System Accessories. Mix it to a peanut butter type consistency. Works Great!

I think I can finish this job up, but will keep that in mind if I ever need to do anything else.
APPRECIATE that greatly, THANKS :)

Let the demolition coninue. Tonight we demo'd the starboard stingers and bulkheads. FYI...I have no idea why there is an airplane tire in the boat, but I have found stranger things in there...trust me!
