Preacher prays for you and your debts.....

Your other buddy the Mad Dog also has a giving nature. He is always there to lend a hand during a hurricane. I think surviving Andrew made him see that he's lucky to have a properous business, and want to share his prosperity like you do Jim. A lot of you have never met Jim. He's a no BS guy, that I would have never known these things about him. He doesn't sugarcoat things, and has ruffled more than one feather on these boating sites. Disagree with him at your own peril. I don't.

I guess one of the questions could be, how much is a preacher like this guy worth.
I dont know exactly how long he has been popular, but if it was factual information that his net worth was greater than say 15 million, would that alter your thoughts?
Where is the line when doing good for others vs doing good for yourself gets crossed.?
Should this man earn $ 1,000,000.00 per year given the money he raises and the lives he effects.
BTW , I have no idea what he makesJust numbers for discussion.

I am a big fan of several motivational speakers and I will admit that my position and outlook in life have been changed by these people. Joel Osteen is a motivational speaker, plain and simple. He does do it under the guise of religion, but virtually all pastors are or should be motivational speakers anyhow. He just does it really well. If you look at some of the money made by motivational speakers he is pretty middle of the road. Not saying he isn't a religious man, but his message is less about the Lord and more about personal growth and achievement. And frankly, most people can use that, regularly. A guy in sales or at a brokerage firm thinks nothing of listening to a motivational speaker on tape or in person, but a guy working as a plumber or construction worker would never think or hear of such a thing. OTOH if they hear about a pastor on TV or in person, they might listen and have the advantage of that kind of training (because all motivation is training) . Joel is simply bringing a motivational message to a different consumer.

one of my daughter's made a comment the other day that stuck with me

she watches Joel sometimes, and made the comment that she'd rather watch Joel talk for free, and make sense, than watch GoreMan talk, and Gore DEMANDS getting PAID 250k to flap his gums, and he makes no sense at all...

couldn't disagree with that logic

Joel may be inspirational just by the message he brings. His father was the minister of the same church. Joel just brought it to a new level. I have no doubt he is a religious man.

Is this the guy that got caught up in some controversy a few years back where his wife was accused of acting like a tool on a plane flight??
Cant remember how all that ended.

Saw him interviewed by Larry King once. Has a massive following.
Very charismatic for sure.

All the witnesses but one recanted over time leaving just one stewardess. Their attorney absolutely destroyed her on the stand.

Osteen did pay a $3000 fine for interfering with the flight crew.

gotta love the part about the Jury Foreman wanting to award the legal fee's to the Osteen's.. :) :iagree:

OJ's attorneys destroyed witnesses on the stand during his murder trial too......does that make OJ innocent too?

Guy obviously has money, so he hired the best attorney money can buy but that certainly doens't make the client innocent of the charges.
