Lilly decided to try the "Go Wide" tactic of racing. I was worried for a bit, but out they came. I asked Britt how close they came and he said he could see the whites of the spectators eyes.....
You wouldn't believe how many times this patrol boat was in the racing lanes. A few times we were really worried. The drivers had to come around the corner and say What The Heck??????? (Or worse)
Typhoon got away from the pock really early. Louie said after that the boat ran excellent, best it has. He also said Smitty is crazy on the throttles sometimes. They were all over the place in the air...
The Smiths were running Class 5 even though their boat had a Class 6 number on it. They started in second place but were in first when they broke down. Hasn't been a good year for them. They have one first place this year and all the rest they have broken down. Class 5 had a decent turnout with 7 boats.
And then it happened, Red Flag the race to let a ship go through with about 1 3/4 laps left to go. The plan was to restart the race after the ship passed, but after the wait was over it was decided they were running too close on the allotted time so the race was stopped and the final positions were what they were at the time of the red flag. I'm sure some were glad, and some were not so happy. But........
So, with the race ending due to the ship traffic, the second race was Class 4 with three boats and Class 6 with ten boats. Class 4 had the first start and the Crockett Rocket came through the first corner in first place, Erie Monster was second and Simmons Marine was third.
