Outerlimits updated website - 28 footer

True. But how much testing has taken place and how extensive was it? I find it hard to believe that on a 28 foot boat traveling at speeds less than 90 mph would show any significant aerodynamic differences due to a bustle. I am not saying that I am right, I would just like too see some data on it. Now on a big cat or v traveling well over 100 mph, I would believe that there would be a noticable difference.

I have done extensive computation and testing regarding this. It works, take my word for it; the results are not tremendous, but they are appreciable enough to certainly make it worthwhile.

Here’s what we know…as it was already pointed out, Phantom is already building boats that are doing over the 90 mph mark with stock 525’s, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that a well known builder of offshore powerboats is claiming to be able to match that. Now, if you load the boat up with a full tank of gas and four fat chicks on a 100 degree day with high humidity and run a dinged up Bravo prop…yeah, you might not get to that 90 mph. So...is it safe? Is any open cockpit boat that size really “safe” at 90 mph? I would say a lot of that comes down to the drivers experience and ability. We know OL are well built boats and if you can pick one up for $150k, that seems like a pretty good deal, but I imagine once you start getting into the options, you are looking at closer to $200k. And I would imagine that there are plenty of people out there that will pony up that type of coin to get exactly what they want.

OK, so what have we learned from my above post?

1) OL is capable of building a 90 mph 28 ft boat (single 525)
2) Speeds will vary depending on set up
3) Boat will only be as safe as the driver
4) Don’t invite four fat chicks on your boat, it will slow you down

Lighten up everyone! :cheers2:

Would love to see a full canopy/svl version.

Smarty, are you serious!!?? No offense but do everyone a favor and stop posting about Outerlimits when you dont really know what your talking about when it comes to their boats.

TT- What is your connection to OL? You have become quite the cheerleader in the past year and you/your dad have had a nice collection of boats over the years but no OL's I can recall. Is the Fiore family paying for your college education or given you a summer job? Are you guys building an OL in the future?

I'm just interested on what has put you in cheerleader mode lately......They build nice stuff and have for years so I just wondered why the sudden promotion? :cheers2:

I definitely like to see them making an attempt at the 30 & under market, but what EVER the price for one of these new 28's ends up being, there will still be tons of nice bigger boats on the used market, for as much or less. Other than Pantera style 28ft boats, the under 30ft market is almost impossible to ignite for the custom guys like OL & Cigarette, for that reason.

Hell, even if you could buy the brand new 28 OL for $150k, that leaves quite a few Twin Step 38 Cigarettes, or similar, out there to consider. More importantly, no matter how great that 28 rides, it can't compensate for the extra 10ft you'd be getting with the 38. As you obviously know better than most, a 28 Brave just can't hang when you compare it to the 36 Warrior.

how true ols are great but at a 150 for 525 hp and 28ft, you could get a lot of used 38s and theres a few 28s new semi custom boats from 80,000 to 110,000. that will run 90.

I would like to make it perfectly clear...there is only one person paying for his college education!!!!!!!!!!! and it happens to be me!!!!
My son goes to school is Bristol, RI...hometown to a world famous deep vee/cat builder!!!
I'll let him answer the rest of the questions....
He loves these high performance boats and has lots of hours running them..
and I don't mean as a passenger...
Maybe his "passion" gets in the way sometimes...but you will always know where he stands...
Currently Outerlimits is building boats and developing new boats..and in this economy that is a very good sign about this boat company...
Hey, I even get him to turn a wrench, once and a while!!!

He has a lot of knowledge and their is nothing wrong with being passionate about a brand (or two). I just wondered what changed......when you had the Gladiator there was less "cheerleading" for OL....

When you put it all out there, it kind of seems like a very similar proposition as the Cigarette Mystique. It was a nice boat, but didn't stir the market much.
But being the change in the economic climate, who knows.
Myself...
Under my current financial situations, I couldn't imagine looking at twins, or maybe twins, but not a larger boat than 28-30'. As it currently stands, I can't afford to own anything larger.
And, owning a boat you can't afford to use would take all the fun out of it.

This is funny stuff. Thanks JS. :D

I have been in Donzi(s), Cigarette, Pantera, Magnum, and now the Phantom as a passenger and or driver since 1969. Your son doesn't like anyone to object to OL greatness. I like his enthusiasm but he went way too overboard for my liking in regard to my earlier posts. Maybe he could be a lawyer one day with that energy, with that I could help and or agree.

Keep him wrenching that is a skill I wish I would have learned more of when my father was living, I just was not listening or too busy to listen to my father at that time.

I have always supported OL when I could in the past even when we had the Cigarette. I love the Gladiator but you cant really compare it to an Outerlimits. When it comes to Vee's OL has always kept raising the bar with technology in hull design and contruction that no one of yet has come close to. Also you never know whats in the future!:D

Ok Smarty, your are the one that brought up spin outs of OL's racing and other unfortunate incidents over the years (due to driver error). What about all the other race crashes or other brands (Fountain, Cigarette, Skater, Formula, list could go on and on). Every manufacture has incident but their usually not related to the design of the boat. It's usually driver error. From what I see you have no experience in multi step hulls in general or any run time in an Outerlimits. There's a big difference between a flat bottom Magnum or Cigarette compared to a four or five step OL. How can you comment on the ride handling or safety of the hull when you have no experience in them? Thats all I was trying to get across. People can object to Outerlimits if they have proper reason and first hand knowledge not just speculation. You have to go out and run in an Outerlimits to see what their boats are all about. If we end up with one I would love to take the boat to Jersey and take you out in it!

I am sorry General Lee, the paragraph started with the words safety and stability, that is why I went with the safety route. I will not post on this subject any further as promised to Team Tsunami. I did not wish to offend you or anyone else. I deleted the post as so I would not hurt feelings or offend others.

Post away if you have logical questions or interest about the boat but you brought up things and turned them around blaming OL for those misfortunes of people loosing their lives (RIP). Thats just not cool. I would love to answer any questions you have about Outerlimits or about the new SV 28.

TT I wasn't picking on you but it just hit me that you are the new "Tank" of the east coast! :D

For the record the 51 GTX is the baddest boat they offer right now in my opinion. Of course I couldn't afford to fix the paint scuffs that boat would suffer around the docks in my hands (bonded deck, no rubrail) but hey atleast it would look cool before I got done with it!
