Opinion wanted

As much as we joke about it, I highly doubt that we are going to be a group that causes actual trouble. We could stay anywhere. Small groups could always break off and do the Vegas Ballet or whatever. I would want to go out for dinner a couple of times someplace good.

I could just see DollaBill and Stecz at the ballet....

I'm sure there will be some harmless fun, but we're not going to be trashing the place.
Anybody that owns one of these boats should at least have the respect to not swing from the chandelier - you didn't get where you're at because you were a disrespectful heathen.

Speak for yourself...:sifone:

I'm not exactly rolling a BT flying condo.
I'm still on my way - and jobless.

Didn't know that. I am too after last Thursday. Michigan went over 12% unemployment, still number one in the nation :(:boxing_smiley::(

What are you looking for, I hear stuff from all over.

Vegas is always a different animal, since they might throw in so many extras if you have a group and are going to gamble. Any other locations, they would charge you for a big meeting room (if you have exhibits or displays) - same room and room setup for dinner - dinner, any equipment (AV, etc.) if you need it and of course any food or drink. I've been surprised at what it costs just to have bagels, juice and coffee for 300-400 people at a conference. You will want as firm a number as possible, and watch how the contract is written--if numbers are less than expected, or if you need some last minute changes or additions...it can sometimes come back to bite you in the ass.

Think of the program you have planned so you'll know what kind of space you need. One big space for everybody? Breakout rooms for special meetings? You got "theater-style" seating set up or "classroom-type" w/long tables to choose...or "dinner style." The hotel will want to know. Are you gonna charge exhibitors for space/access, to help with total costs, or maybe let them "sponsor" some aspect of the meeting? ...Or maybe not do that at all.

Besides each member's air fare and room, bail money, drinks, food, bail money, gambling money and bail money, what are you going to charge for the meeting itself--even just to help cover costs? You'll want everybody to get some shirts & cr*p, goodie bags of stuff, w/free samples and maybe an event program (have vendors buy ads) for people to take home. Door prizes...etc. too, maybe.

Sorry if I made you regret wanting to take this on. If you need help, I will be happy to devote some time to this as well.

BlackJack makes a great point of course. But, being in non-profit I am always trying to cross-promote or work a relationship angle (along with being user friendly to the host) to work something out. Will they put on SEMA for us? No. Will they do a mixer? Maybe. They do them for new arrivals every night in some places.
One time I went to the bahamas with some radio people and we had a large enough group (100) that they put on a "manager's welcome party" for us and moved the house band into the party for the 2 hours.

Sorry to hear you 're out too.
I'm by decision - the wife and I work(ed) for the same Co., and had the same boss. She got a promotion - hence the move to PHX - and if I stayed with the Co. she would be my boss now in PHX - HR has a problem with that.

I'm just looking for a gig in Tempe.
Previous experience in Construction.
Autocad design and layout. Workflow efficiency. Lean.
Purchasing global and inventory maintenance for a production facility.
Negotiating with vendors for multiple lab facilities...

Thanks for the advice!
I'm sure we can use as much help as is out there within our group.
We're kind of in uncharted waters for many of us on how to put something like this together.

She is at home.:dupe:

But around time for raises when I got my salary bumped $20K every year, HR would have had a problem...:leaving:
