We should talk. You are a smart guy so I assume you don't have all the info. We need to be South Korea right now, not Italy. The politics are ****ed but they don't invalidate the science. If you get this, you will likely not know it and spread it to the vulnerable by doing business as usual. We really do need to socially isolate right now. Shame voluntary didn't work. Our ability to save as many people as possible is completely dependent on the curve being flattened. Save nana. Stay the **** home.
Our hospice workers coming home from vacation right now get an extra two weeks. We will pay them. They need to stay the **** home.

Ohio and Kentucky just pushed back March elections until June. The number of cases is growing exponentially, and many have no idea they are sick. And there is a PPE/hand sanitizer shortage because people hoarded it. We had somebody break into our storage at our inpatient unit and steal masks and sanitizer. So we had to reduce visiting hours to reduce the need for masks.
This stupid virus will never have this advantage again. But we need to slow this thing down. Now... Blaming it on Trump is stupid. Trump did not cause this, make it worse, or fail to act. But that doesn't change the fact that it will produce more critical care patients than we can handle, and it will do it in 7-14 days from now. Denial that there is a pandemic of a novel virus that has been on our shores for months and is about to bloom is more stupid.
The best we could have ever done is slow it down. But the phucking Chinese didn't warn us. We have to do everything we can. No constitutional changes for God's sake. But stay home. Just stay home. People need to think about this differently.

In this country, regular flu kills between 12k and 75k. But NOT ALL THE SAME ****ING WEEK. "Regular flu" has a much harder time, because there are many in the herd who have prior immunity to various strains, which acts like a fire break in a wildfire. We have no fire break. This wave will be different than "the flu" for THE SYSTEM, even if your personal experience is similar to past flus. It won't be similar, for the SYSTEM. In subsequent years, we will have prior immunity and this won't be necessary. We are using f*cking data to make decisions. None of this is made up fantasy. We have lots of data from Diamond Princess, China, South Korea, Italy, and others. We know a lot about this virus. We need to spread the mutherphucking curve.
They will probably lock me down for two weeks so I can come out when the rest of our admin is sick with this. Health care workers will get it. I find out at 4:00. By conference call. Face to face is over. Our exec team can't be in the same room now. We are considering holding some nurses and doctors back, also. Quarantined until later in the battle. We can't **** this up or more people will die.
If we lose control of this exponential growth in the coming hours, we will lose a lot of health care workers and first responders too. Not just "old people." Currently, hundreds of thousands have been exposed and don't realize it yet. While they do business as usual. It will begin to multiply by factors difficult to believe. This is all science. Based on real data.
I give up.
