The 870 is the most widely used shotgun platform for a reason. It works. There are probably a million of them strapped in cop cars across the US.
It's either an 870 or a Mossberg 590. The better gun is the one you are more familiar with. I was just curious because if it was an unusual variant that had your eye, you could probably find it on gunbroker.com for whatever the true predominant going rate is. Less than retail. Then you'd have to pay your local shop for the transfer, of course. But you could get the one you want, rather than whatever you can find in your area. Just a thought. I've had good luck with gunbroker. (Maybe you have too.)

Speaking of your area, marinized would be a nice touch.

Morning,

The 870 Marine Magnum 6+1 is a cool gun. My home defense stashes are the 1300 Defenders though. Also decent weapons.

Has anybody shot the new Winchester SXP? They are advertised as the fastest action on the planet.

Gun Broker , diggin it.

Yeah. Every once in a while nobody is watching an auction and you can make off with something cheap. I have been looking at Ruger Lc9s pro for carry. Retail is $419.00. I can walk into Gander Mountain and pay $419.00 plus another 30 bucks tax is $449.00 or so. Yesterday one went for $290 plus $25 shipping on gunbroker. If I ship that to my FFL guy (who happens to work at my range) he will charge $25 to transfer. Final price would be $340.00 in my hand at the range. Under Gander Mountain by $100 and I deal with my regular guy. Half the fun is looking it over with him while the paperwork goes through. If you don't like it, you refuse it before he transfers it and he ships it back. Hard to go wrong with new in box from a reputable dealer with a lot of A+++ feedback.

So it depends on the gun and the auction, but I always add about $50 to account for shipping and transfer. If the price still works... it's the way to go. I got a Ruger MkIII 22/45 stainless target brand new for a couple hundred bucks once.

I have had a Mossberg 590 A1 9 shot for 15 years. The real deal. Bayonet lug, parkerized, heat shield and everything.
In fact, I bought it 9/12/01 off the shelf at a Dick's sporting goods before they stared getting squirmy. I'm not sure how they ended up with one... but there it was.

I looked at some left handed AR's this Morning....What the heck is 6.8? How common is this ammo?

Mossberg has some pretty good prices on there. I need to talk to the FFL Guy here tomorrow.

Ah... the AR and the AK had a baby, and it looked a lot like .270. :D

6.8 Remington SPC. Came along as a possible replacement for short carbine. Delivers like 40% more energy at 100-300 yards.
A 6.8 chambered upper will fit a 5.56 lower, but needs a new bolt. And the muzzle device, if any. And mag of course.

Not a cheap round, all though you can find it. Even in "bulk" it aint cheap. About a buck a round.

Looks like an upper, barrel, charging handle, and bolt carrier group is around $500 to turn a regular 5.56 into a 6.8.
Interesting, as an FFL would NOT be required for those parts, and it would make your lower a different gun with a different barrel.
Ah... so...

Next episode: frangible ammo. :)

Good info...might be something I'll look at down the line...need that .12 first...and maybe a Hammerless Smith and Wesson .38

I need something light for concealed carry....My pants fall down with too much loose change:sifone:

I carry an airweight hammerless Smith and Wesson .38 every day. 5 shot and I usually carry a two-pack speedloader case somewhere around me. The sights are nearly useless, and it can be a bear with the 12 pound trigger, but it's a nice trigger as far as grit and smoothness go. With no safety, I am fine with the heavy trigger. The shape helps with concealment. I carry it high at 3:00 most of the time. I put Crimson Trace grips on it and it helps with fitment in my hand, with recoil, and with the laser I can do groups a few inches in diameter at 21 feet, which is ok for a snubbie. Fantastic carry gun. I can carry it for 12 hours and never have my pants pulled down. :D
A .38 special +P hollowpoint is not a wimpy round.
