I think it was around 7th grade when the career counselor met with each of us after a series of career related presentations.

The counselor leaned in for a high quality 8 minutes with this bright eyed young man, and asked with great interest: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

I paused a few seconds, and responded: "I have given this a lot of thought."

Counselor: "That's great!"

Me: "And having considered pay, hours, retirement age, benefits, and security...."

Counselor: "Yes!"

Me: "I think I want to be a crooked cop in a town with excellent skim potential and mild winters."

The quality of the counseling was pretty sketchy after that, I have to say.
