NFL rejects military veterans' 'Please Stand' Super Bowl program ad

The military group American Veterans (AMVETS) says the NFL has rejected its full-page Super Bowl program ad that contained the hashtag "#PleaseStand." The ad, with the picture a color guard holding the American flag, also included a call to donate $20 to AMVETS.

In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, AMVETS National Commander Marion Polk wrote that "freedom of speech works both ways." Polk goes on to say, "We respect the rights of those who choose to protest," but "imposing corporate censorship to deny those same rights to those veterans who have secured it for all is reprehensible."

I still cannot stand "Cheatin Brady and the Patriots". If they were in a college sport, they would have been suspended from post season play in almost all of their seasons and had to relinquish their wins.

Here’s what Coach Spagnuolo said this week about the Patriots knew the Eagles’ signals during Super Bowl XXXIX:

“The biggest thing we learned was make sure you have two signal callers, not one signal caller. Because they may have all your signals.”

“I remember through the course of the game, [defensive coordinator Jim Johnson] saying, ‘They’re getting our signals. They know when we’re blitzing … try to hide it, etc. etc.’ He was right. When you go back and look at that tape, it was evident to us.”

So they hid and falsified their signals to try to win the game.

I would bet $ the Patriots did the same thing in the second half last year against the Falcons. Just didn't get caught, or the league looked the other way like in the past.

Both Teams in the Superb Owl had a sh*tload of kneelers...( a sign of submission)

I hope They do something stoopid during the Anthem. ( Anthem is a huge bet in Vegas Over/Under Times)

As this would kill Season Ticket sales...Which would affect Contracts and extensions.... EEDEEOTS!!!!!!

Good for Georgia!!

The Georgia Senate unanimously approved a resolution Thursday condemning the National Football League’s “hypocritical actions” a year before Atlanta hosts the Super Bowl.

The measure, proposed by Republican state Sen. David Shafer, urged Georgians to stand during the national anthem and denounced the league’s decision to deny a veterans group advertising space in the official program for Sunday’s Super Bowl in Minneapolis.

The key text of Senate Resolution 673:

“The respected veterans’ organization AMVETS National Service Foundation attempted to purchase advertising in the official program of the Super Bowl calling on all Americans to stand when the National Anthem is played; and

“WHEREAS, in contradiction of its own pious and self-serving declarations about free speech and dissent, the National Football League rejected the AMVETS advertisement, denying this veterans’ organization the opportunity to express its views on the subject; and

“WHEREAS, the National Football League has abandoned even the pretense of supporting free speech and dissent, silencing a major veterans’ organization while condoning organized disrespect and contempt for the Flag of the United States and the National Anthem.

“NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body denounce the National Football League for its hypocritical actions to silence the AMVETS National Service Foundation and suppress its message that Americans should respectfully stand for the Flag and National Anthem of the United States of America.”

Looks like your 5 to 1 odds paid off!!!

Nice to see Brady lose. Must not have figured out a way to cheat this game...........

Still too many to make a big change I think. They said there were no protesters during the National Anthem, but I don't know if that's true or not........

NEW YORK — An estimated 103.4 million people watched the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, the smallest audience for television's biggest yearly event since 2009.

Would need to ask someone who attended, but I watched the anthem just to see, and they shot it very strategically so that nobody was shown from the waist down. All "head shots" of people looking very emotional. Like eyes closed. You could not tell who was standing, sitting, or kneeling at all from the way it was shot. They SHOWED no kneelers. Whether there were kneelers or not... who knows.

It looks like the anthem protests hurt the Super Bowl ratings — and it should set alarm bells ringing on Wall Street and Madison Avenue
Business Insider

Ratings for the Super Bowl were down, and it seems fan reaction to the National Anthem protests is partially to blame.

UBS conducted a survey of 2,000 fans, and half of the respondents who claim to be less interested in the NFL say it's because of the protests.

The Super Bowl still reached a massive audience, but the league's popularity will be a continuing concern for advertisers, broadcasters and investors who track sports rights deals.

Despite a gripping game, ratings for the Super Bowl were down 7%. And yes, you can blame the national anthem protests.

At least that's according to new research issued by UBS. The investment bank surveyed 2,000 US consumers to find out why a significant number of people were watching the NFL less frequently. Turns out that 50% cited the national anthem protests as the reason. That rationale was the most frequently cited reason, and also exhibited the largest jump year over year, per UBS.

Well, I guess I can add Nike to my boycotted companies associated with the NFL.

Never another pair of Nike shoes, socks, or athletic wear even though I was a supporter before being from Oregon and a big Ducks fan.

(I will still watch the Ducks unless one of them takes a knee and the school supports them).
