NNRT Offshore Classics

Oct. 1981

If it's October 3rd, it would be the inaugural Harbour Towne Race off of Dania, Florida. This would be Lee Bomar in his 38' Active Cat. He was in first place, by 14 miles, when he puked an engine eight miles from the end. Wolverine was supposedly the first large cat built out of Kevlar. Searace

Chris, we need the date of that photo if you have it. I think that was Bill's boat during 1977.

Who do you think is in it?

This photo was taken on July 12,1978 and the owner/driver of the boat is Frank Rossitto. Frank bought it from Billy and you can see his name towards the back of the boat on top of Bob Latham's name and Latham Marine. Bill raced his 36' Perfomer, "Night Moves" at this race and I helped with the set up of both boats. When Bill won the performance class in 1977, "Evil Ways" was boat M-144, not M-14 as in this photo. "Night Moves" as well as "Long Shot" which Bill race in Point Pleasant Beach in '79, '80 (which he won) and '81, all carried number "144". Those of you who still have the race program with Joel Haloern and "Beep-Beep" on the cover can turn to page 36 and see Frank tied for 13th place in the overall standings with my pal Bobby Sheer. Frank was somewhat of an "associate" of Billy, but later ended up in the witness protection program.
