The New Jersey Performance Powerboat Club (NJPPC) Planning Committee met last month to review the 2009 Season as well as develop the upcoming 2010 Season schedule. The NJPPC Planning Committee headed by club President Dave Patnaude, meets regularly throughout the year and makes all major decisions that impact NJPPC. The Planning Committee plays a huge roll in schedule planning, event rule changes, new event ideas and most importantly how to execute all of the club's events. The Planning Committee is also well balanced in regard to the Committee members and the types of boats that they own. This ensures that all members of NJPPC are fairly represented when event planning takes place.
In 2010, NJPPC for the 1st time will offer a Poker Run exclusively for boats that are 28' and under in length. The event will be called the:
"NJPPC Black Jack Poker Run"
The event will occur on Saturday September 4th, 2010.
The idea behind the event is that both locally and natioanlly there is significant lack of participation by smaller boats in poker runs. After asking alot of smaller boat owners why this is, we have been told:
* Owners feel that their boats are too small compared to the average field of 38ft and larger boats
* Owners feel that even with a 60mph class their boats are not fast enough
* Too expensive to participate
This new event will hopefully help eliminate those sentiments and allow this segement of boaters to get the feel and excitement of a poker run but one that is specifically tailored to the smaller boat owner's needs.
We will hold a Driver's meeting the night before and the poker run itself will be held early in the morning to take advantage of calm bay waters, similar to the way we have structured our Wave Runner Poker Runs. The entry fee will be very reasonable and the event will end with a complete brunch and award ceremony at the Lobster Shanty in Toms River NJ.
Most larger performance boat owners today started out themselves with a smaller performance boat such as a 24' Outlaw or a 22' Scarab back in the day. These types of boats are a very significant part of our sport today and many of them are future 38' Cigarette, 46' Outerlimits or other larger performance boat owners.
We are very excited about this event and we hope that the event will cater exclusively to a boating segment that has not been previously catered to at the Jersey Shore. We are also hopeful that this event will allow the club to continue it's growth by embracing more different types of boaters such as we have with the Wave Runner Poker Runs.
