Need some info,Interesting old boat

That Pantera Sean linked is interesting too. I wouldn't be all that worried about the twin turbo motor. Banks did a decent job, and retrofit improvements are out there.

I like that boat alot and wouldn't mind having one but I ain't going to pay for power I don't want or need or know anything about other than the fact that turbos make alot of heat and for the most part are a pain if you don't have some deep know how about them and I don't.

An interesting fact about that boat. Harry designed and bult it as a 'throwaway' mold. It was the first time, as far as I know, that a mold was built (of Formica) instead of a plug. They were only going to build a couple of boats. It ran so well that about 85 boat companies were started with copies. Go figure.

Thank you for any and all input on this, it all helps and is always great reading most anything from you.

I strongly agree with the transom moisture measurement and do the bottom and stringers too. Brownie's note about the origin in right on. Jo or Pepe may know more. Captain55

The new info I have sofar is that the guy that owns it now is the 2nd owner.
He had the resto done in 07 and that the engine and drive were brand new then.
He says the registration says Sea Bird and that he(the sales guy) won't be back in his office to get me the HIN untill the 7th.
Also said he has run the boat twice and that it runs very strong and solid.....ya ya ya ya...
Told me to send anyone I want to ck it out with whatever meter they want and it would pass with flying colors.........................
Also when I questioned the history and added some info I had he said who the fuk are you some old history dude or something?
I laughed and said no but I do have some of the very best in the bis backing me up, you really have no idea.
So now I wait again.

You would be so far ahead if you bought that Pantera over that no name whatever it is 24. That Pantera is well built to begin with and that thing is cherry for how old it is. TRS are still available and as well taken care of the boat appears to be i am sure the mechanicals are as well, Get a good survey.Even if you had to go and have a mild non turbo motor put together to satisfy your fear of turbos you would be money ahead.

The latest info from the sales guy is the HIN# on the transom is 49435..............???????? something just ain't right there.
He has a title and has that # on it and says 1969 Sea Bird
Resto done at Performance Marine in Ft. Myers Fla in 07, anyone know them?

He has said he is willing to deal.

There's some decent 24 Panteras out there with owners willing to deal as well. As noted above, you get a Pantera you get a known history, a network of owners to support you and Pepe... The most interesting man in the world... :sifone:

I have yet to see anything that comes close to this price range with that new power. remember I am only looking for something to use on the river at my parents house that I will be taking over soon. You should remember the area... between B'ville and Cross Lake and up to Onidea Lake. So I don't need a brick Chit house boat, hell I've been looking at Sting Rays (tripp D:ack2:) Believe me I wouldn't mind a 24 Pantera but it would be a kinda waste.

I hear ya. My grandparents lived right next to the yacht club on the south side of Onieda. Rocked a 16' Glasstron bowrider!

Something to think about on the boat choice... You're an hour or so away from the Thousand Island and 15 minutes from Ontario. You never know when you're going to want to put your boat on the trailer and do something different. And both the St. Lawrence and Ontario can make your boat earn it's keep but quick.

If you're really just looking to knock around B-ville, Cross Lake and Oneida, I'd suggest a 14' - 16' RIB. Low maintenance and tons of utility.

Good luck!

I can't disagree with you on that, if I was smart I would just find any ole CC and end it but we all know smart has nothing at all to do with this hobbie:ack2:

Just gotta have that WOW factor and be so totaly different than anything else around:driving::rolleyes:

My guess is Pantera, but I see my brothers already beat me to it. There are just too many similarities to my boat. Although the hull was made by MANY different companies, each had a slightly different deck, and this one looks exactly like mine.

Hull ID #'s dont always mean anything on a boat this old, somewhere along the lines, my title got lost, or something, and the #'s on my title come back to a pantera bass Boat. I guess maybe I will find the real #'s when I peel the aluminum plate off the transom in a few weeks.

If you are serious, the boat is only about 4 hours from Miami, maybe a Nunez, can be persuaded to check it out for ya, and tell you if its one of theirs, along with condition??

Several similarities as listed

1, area where the windshield meets the hull

2, the line on the inside of the gunwale

3, the "Pad"

two things that are throwing me off though is

1, The fuel fill on the side of the boat, mine is in the deck, on top, in front of the windscreen, but ScottyB's newer 24 has it on the side like that??

2, Pantera winshields had an Aluminum 3/4" or 1" box tubing frame with glass in them??
