Most Embarrassing Tow?

I knew that would come up when I saw this thread...

Back in 1999 a new Nor-Tech 50V owner took off out of KW to catch up with the Boca Grande raft up. He'd never been there before.
After a little while they kept looking over the side and finally Oh S...!
Pulled back on the sticks and they were in 2' of water.
No problem call Sea Tow.
Well they had been running so long in 2' of water Sea Tow couldn't get to them.
They had to walk the line to them. Ran out of line twice and had to go back to KW for more. Finally reached them with a total of 5750' of line.
A new world record for the length of tow line!
And of course a bill of around $7000.

WOW! Maybe he should have just stayed on it... :sifone:

I blew my engine in my ski boat on the far end of our local lake, had to tow it in on my buddies standup jetski. As soon as I hit the 5mph zone the jetski ran out of gas. Swam the ski in then swam back out and grabbed the line on the boat and swam it in. It was mid summer on a saturday and the lake was packed, not one person offered to help.

I towed some nice cruisers this year with our pontoon. Never accept money, doesn't feel right.
Found a few cases of beer and thank you cards on the boat this summer though!
It sucks to be stranded and I'd be fine with anything that runs pulling me back to the dock!

Exactly.. it's all good.. you never know when You'll be the one being towed in..

Got towed in by blow boat back in the 80's. Offered him some cash & he said no thanks. He took a pic & that showing it to his friends was payment enough.

Just the other way aroud.
Was run'n in Oshkosh Thunder PR. Run'n abreast with two Fountains in 4 footers. Just as the heli dropped in to shoot some pics, the wife points out a boat to our right thats bobbing in the waves with every one on board waving us down....I was the first to back down and turn back. Will never understand what pocesses people to overload a 16' tri hull and go out in those conditions. When we were hooking to him, the guy askes...."Were you in some kind of race?"......why no, what would make you think that?.....GRRRRR.
Ever try pulling a tri hull in 4 footers? Made for a long 3 miles to the harbor. We were the last PR boat in and didn't make the heli shots

Was that same year that Trond and Livorsi came down to Key West from Fort Myers in a 50 and the seas got big and Mike kissed the dash? Don't ask me how I remember that. But, then again, I remember riding with Billy D, in the black NasT boat with the Lamborghinis, running flat out and Al Copeland in the turbine pleasure cat blowing by us like we were standing still. And, me and JoJo "borrowing" the flags after the races.

Thanks for bringing up '99. That was a great year in Key West. Was it Ted's 50 that you are talking about?

in my roost video when my intercooler blows apart and picks the hatch up one of the pieces broke the fuel fitting off so we got towed in.
