Smith Brothers Offshore Racing Team announced today they will join with Joker Powerboats to contest the 2011 Offshore Powerboat Association Championship . The boat is 26’ and will be powered by the same Mercruiser 496 Mag HO that propelled their previous boat to the 2009 OPA Class 6 National Championship. The boat will be campaigned as Joker Powerboats 611.

Pete Smith, Driver "We are looking forward to getting our new Joker Powerboat. David Goode builds one heck of a boat and we look forward to racing it against the other manufacturers in our class. We will join two other teams currently running Joker Powerboats in OPA Offshore Racing.”

Rich Smith, Throttleman “Brian Hollis at Joker Powerboats is building us an outstanding boat. Not only is it built to be raced, the construction and finish is perfect. The boat is identical to the one that beat us in the 2007 OPA Championship, so we know how it will perform.”

Completion and delivery of the Joker is expected to be in late December . The team is looking forward to escaping the cold weather in the Northeast and head to Georgia to take delivery. Rigging of the boat will begin immediately upon their return to NJ to be ready for the 2011 season.

Congratulations and Welcome to the Joker Team now you just need to send that 496 and let me Tylerize it !!!! :D

Has anyone done any real testing with the tabs being parrallel vs at the same angle as the transome? I know Fountain swear's by it. I tryed it on my Krypto and for what ever reason it made my boats chine worse. Maybe its the location of the tabs. I love the metal dash. The fiberglass dashboards always crack. Is the trim switch going to be on the throttle? Nice bad a$$ boat. And yes we both have come a long way since Soup To Nuts. You are one of the very, very few who have taken time off this sport and came back. I aploud both of you!

We left them parallel because they worked on the Corsa and the Joker's hull is nearly identical. Can't say we did any testing, just trying to keep everything the same until we can test. The aluminum dash was just easier to fabricate than building fiberglass from scratch. The drive trim is on the throttle. We are very pleased with the Joker and think she will get the job done for us with our 496 strapped to her.
