ILMOR V10 Racers??

Dude you misread my post bro....I would love Ilmor in the game as well as you!!!! That is what the statement about the unity was about as well as the big picture....Grow the class and continue to fund it but on the other hand there needs to be some incentives given for people to build new stuff....150k complete package isn't unheard of....but I am sure the whole class isn't going to sideline their boat to build new ones when the ones we have are already pretty competitive!!!!

And what's in it for an engine manufacturer....SALES....that's what it is all about at the end of the day....you know it and I know it!!!!!

Your right I misread it.....I want them to be let in soe we can beat them...beating Merc is getting boring.....:sifone: We have a nice 550 engine to race them with.

Your still old.:bump:

pat W:driving:

It came and went and you left as it crashed and burned. I was in Orange Beach there was TV but, not anywhere near 80 boats.. No Supercats , No Super, V F2 had dwindled to 5 or 6 boats.. Of course none of that was your fault..

No supercat's no f2 in Orange beach 2003? Are you kidding?

Jim my boat is 27' and its just the ILMOR and a XR....no extention box or ITS..

We set the boat up differant between speed runs and racing...
We run a standard Sportmaster with a 24 Merc 4 blade for class 5 puts us at about 76 mph with full fuel
We ran over 90 by changing to a Imco shortie and a 27 4 blade...

I agree there should be something in it for the racers...and right now...I'm looking whats out there...
If I am a new SVL racer and build a new SVL....on the engine package what insentive is there for me with Mercury Racing today...
The last I checked was 0...and dose anyone want to post on here what it will cost me to buy one...
Now if you let ILMOR in you can go about it 2 ways...
1. I'm sure IMLOR would do a racers price if you run any of there engines in any class...
2. plus the support you get.
3. Maybe work out a P1 engine program with contingency program.

Right now you have nothing with Merc.

I sure don't speak for ILMOR...but if you can get anything from a engine manufacture these days you need to take it...

Merc contingency program did not happen overnight..when I started racing in F1 in 2001...there was nothing for the 500 hp...other then the Merc truck at races and that was retail unless you were a merc dealer..

But like it was said here...this needs to be decided now before the few new boats buy the 525 because thats all thats legal today...

Guys and ladies

The Mercury Racing racing program did not even get you a hat before GM showed up. I am not joking or exaggerating. I was in a meeting where Mercury Racing complained that they made good money selling the racers hat's and clothing until GM vortec started giving the guys on the podium hats. .............................................................................................................. Yes I mean baseball style caps with the Mercury Racing logo.

When competition or perceived competition came along they Mercury Racing reluctantly sweetened the deal for the racers. Do not blame todays economy for them pulling out. Mercury Racing has no need to come support racing as the own the spec classes.

When we (APBA Offshore LLC) were selling hundreds of engines per year for Mercury Racing before GM showed up they did almost nothing for the racers. Once GM showed up they tried to force GM to do the same. As a customer of GM they had some influence and in the end the racers had to pay GM more than GM wanted originally.

Competition is good if properly managed. Managing it is difficult and expensive. P1 has a great plan with the strain gauge. I would like to see a proper validation and implementation of the strain gauge system. If you can implement this system than you can generate some commercial interest.

I said I recall 5 or 6 F2's. I was one of them. Hatchers Formula , Snap on Donzi, Harwich 35 Fountain and maybe one more.

And what about the Supercats, they were in Orange Beach except for WHM and Reliable (which was tore up in St Pete) I agree F2 had been largely superseded by SV. I would refer to St Pete several weeks before as the real size of the LLC.

With all that said Mike is MUCH better off without the LLC both personally and financially. The sad part is the racer's just expect someone else to show up and take a financial loss so they can play.

Wow, that's a huge difference in speed. Any issues getting on plane with the shorty setup?

Not much the Ilmor pops it right on plane....
the differance is from going from a 24 to a 27 in prop...we also gain 3+ mph from pulling the Sportmaster off to the Imco Shortie....but we have a lot better control with the sportmaster...

Jimmy,

In the interest of historical accuracy, we had 56 boats in Orange Beach (That was after the boycott. We had 83 boats in St. Pete before the boycott, which was, and still is, the largest National Championships event in the last 20 years) and every one of the classes there had more boats than the boycott event in KW, where there were only 30+ boats total. Like it or not, I did not leave as things crashed and burned, but rather because after spending a fortune on idiots who had no clue what they were screwing up and how to run that which they stole, I decided it was stupid to keep spending MY money on other people's hobby.

Now, you and the other boycotters had your chance and well, we see how terrific you genuises have done. So yeah, everyone should follow you and Randy until the 12 boat fleet is down to just you in your silly little uniform looking for another person to mooch from. Please man. Give it a rest. None of what I have to say is for you and any other mooch. I will continue to help those who ask for it and who have skin in the game. After all, I am looking out for their investments, not trying to mooch off of them like you. And at the end of the day, unlike you, if I ever want to race I can, but on my own dime. And what you are doing is not racing, it is simply boating. Pretend otherwise all you want. But at the end of the day, you and people like you, are the ones truly responsible for the sad state of affairs today, not me.

Steve, I do recall Matt Rices SuperV and a SuperCat or so. My memory was clouded because I also Raced Key West that year and most of the big boats were there.. I am over talking about the past.. It is what it is.. and Over and done with..

I am going to Look forward.. Ignore the nay sayers and press on. The class we are racing in now is pretty cool and has the potential of getting better..
...I am going to focus on looking forward not back.

I hope your boat can make it to St Clair.

Since you brought it up..I may need Mike's help to clarify the legal jargon.

The APBA inspector comes to post race inspect the boat I crewed. He steps up, pulls the Rev limiter clips, stuck them in his pocket and walked away. No tag and bag, nothing sealed and signed, no witness, no accountability. In his pocket and walked away. Supposedly they were sent to MSD for analysis. I forget how many weeks passed before any answers were presented. You speak of rules...Make me laugh. I think a court would call anything derived from the events of that day tainted. It was clearly part of a personal vendetta your buddy was taking out on Fountain teams.. Amazingly the grudge persists to this day.

Once again, you hit the keyboard and prove your IQ (or lack thereof). First off, I have no grudge against Fountain. Reggie and I put our issues to bed years ago. I have actually represented Reggie since then as Martin will tell you. And I have said repeatedly that Reggie is the best ever at designing v-bottoms.

My initial post about the Fountain SVL had nothing to do with him or the company. Rather, it was motivated by the knowledge of what would happen to SVL and the owners' investments if it was allowed into the class unfettered. Sadly, I am being proven right every day.

As for your MSD delusion, I am not sure what you are talking about. If you mean taking the chips out of the Pier 57 Super Cat in Toronto, then once again you are not telling the truth. Martin and Mike T. will tell you exactly what happened. The chips were illegal and we caught it, which was like the 3rd or
4th time we had caught one of the team's boats cheating that season. Martin was LLC President at the time and he did the right thing.

You should really put the shovel down. It is not helping you. Be quiet, keep mooching and stay away from engaging in battles you are just not suited for, please for your own sake.

I have another example of personal agendas serving sponsors against Fountain. Sarasota 2001.. Fountain was going to set a new Kilo record in F2 with the new 35 Lightning. So the best I can tell since Formula was a series sponsor. {I forget maybe Cig was too. They had their new Gladiator there.} APBA split the record for F2 into two groups. One for up to 35 and one for the larger boats. Since there was no Fountain racing that season larger then 35.. I guess no one expected last years 38 Fever to show up.

Fountain took both records that day.. I personally thanked Paul A the inspector for the last minute change of the rules.. That APBA/UIM World Speed record plaque is special to me..Thanks Mike.

:puke:

What are you smoking? Jimmy, please, walk away from the keyboard before your nose grows so long you have to type from another room.

and this proves what? SBI has followed suit with the same BS. instead of have rules and making certain boats fit into smaller amount of classes, its been heading the opposite way ever since!!!!

So we have some sort of wanna-be racing "show" with very little real racing left.

Plus your arguement doesn't make any sense, in that a boat length rule is atleast easily understood. But how about when there 2 sv classes, 2 extreme v classes so reggie can split the entire fountain fleet into any and all classes they want too merely have a magizine add stating world champ.

If you guys really want to see how racing should work and how people liek Roger Penske do thing turn on TNT a dn watch the nascar race.

you'll notice the following

sponsors, tv, multiple manufactures, real competition, rules that are evenly enforced, tech inspection and thats just a quick observation.

Besides, splitting the class was for the kilo only and was actually designed to HELP Fountain and the manufacturers of the other big boats. OK Jimmy, back to your pipe.

You guys have to be joking...

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME...who would want this....

Nobody in their right mind, for sure. Randy is exactly what has burdened this sport for so long. A disloyal, selfish taker, looking out solely for his own interests.

On a positive note, let me say that after attending SIB I can say that I still believe the sport has a bright future as something more than a hobby, but only in the right hands. I love Smitty and OPA, and the Geico guys. They are examples of what is still good in offshore racing and I will always be there to help them whenever they ask.

I think it would be foolish to run open boats against canopy boats in a class with potential speeds above 90. Do you really think you can keep up with the likes of Miklos and the Fountain in open water unrestrained?

And you out front with that patented snake move? No way, man, no way.

Gino, I would like to get a good look at your boat. I am not at all familiar with Ilmor's.. Do you have their complete package? Is your boat a 30 or 32?

Maybe Smitty will run us at the same time and you can see how well you can match up. If we are lucky and have closed testing we can rest together. We'll have to wait and see. I suspect we will have a good SVL turn out. Points wise it is still open and no one has a lock in our series. Not yet anyway.. The Fountain runs strong but, I am not convinced he is unbeatable..Time will tell.

Skaterdave have you raced this year?

Attaboy hero, attack a guy who is obviously passionate for the sport with that worn out "Have you even raced" silliness. Here is one for you: Have you ever stroked a check for the sport or secured a national sponsor for the sport, or done anything other than mooch off of others? No! If you want to keep mooching I suggest you walk away from the keyboard. You are of ZERO help to anyone.

Classic Jimmy. Slam away and then when you get swatted back, you blather on about how you are just going to look forward, blah, blah, blah. Hopefully you will do just that but I doubt it.

Skaterdave have you raced this year?

No i don't drive or throttle. I do how ever crew for a team.

Plus what difference would it make, I've seen racing back when there was alot of boats in a few classes - 10 plus boats per class and that was the norm.

when people start learning from there mistake things will start moving forward.

:toetap05::toetap05:

Hold on now since I have had the pleasure of racing with Randy i have to say that he has an outlook for the big picture here....other than you guys trying to slice each other up we have had long talks about who, what, when and he shares a lot of the same ideas as the rest of the racers!!!!
